Question:

What can i put down to prevent grass growing through?

There is a section of our backyard that we wish to put gravel down so that we can have a pool (above ground) in the summer time and an area for our youngest children's outdoor toys, as well as long the house and fence where our AC unit is; since it's too tight for a lawn mower to get to.

i live in West Texas where weeds are insanely hard to be rid of! aside from constantly spraying round up...what can i lay on the ground BEFORE we add the gravel to prevent as best as possible the grass and weeds from growing up through the gravel?

i know there is some sort of landscaping tarp but im not sure what it's called or where i can find it in bulk. this is a large area.

~thanks

  1. You can find weed control fabric in Home Depot and Lowes. Spread this on the ground before you put gravel. These come in rolls of many yards and are relatively cheap.

  2. Walmart sells rolls of 6 mil black plastic (10x50ft)  or you can use Landscape Fabric which actually lasts longer and allows water to seep through the gravel, but, is more expensive....I wouldn't put gravel down under the pool though.

I would use geo-textile underlayment over sand for the pool, that's if you are going to have a large one or one of the blow up ring type.

It will prevent any stones from penetrating the liner.
