I'm a high school Senior thinking about doing NROTC (Marine Option) and i have friends that really don't want me to join the military saying I'll be killed. Is there anything i can tell them to make them shut up, like statistics or something that will make them see that I'm not going to get shipped out and die the second I'm commissioned? I know there's a risk but it's not like half of all military people get shot.

  1. They only know what they see of the news, tell they don't know half of what's going on over there... Don't lie, being a Marine you'll have more of a chance of being shipped them others will.... If you know what your doing and do your job right, you'll do well. I went through the same thing when i joined, i was still in high school, too... Being shipped all depends on your job, Marine's have more of a chance then most, but they are trained for it and know what to do, Army Infantry and other Combat MOS's have more of chance than most will, i am leaving for Kuwait next March, from Kuwait to Iraq, obviously.

  2. You don't need stats...you just need to join and tell them to mind their own business.

Read to them about Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone. This should make them wet their pants. Verus reading about Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or whoever they want to be like.

You know what civvie life is like, so now you want to try Marine life. That's it. When you come home in your  Dress Blues, so go somewhere public like a mall or resturant, when the girls come to you, then they will see.

s***w 'em if you want to be a warrior and serve. They can go play video games and fantasize. They can die in a gang fight or car accident just as easy. Regrets are worse than death.

All my 'hatin azz friends and family members changed their tune when I come around now because of the respect I get and they can't relate. Their heroes dunk basketballs or play in movies, mine wear Medal of Honors.

Research and make YOUR OWN decision. But remember ANYONE can be a civilian, but not everyone can be a Marine. h**l, I was an Army Ranger, Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne and I still am not a US Marine (not saying it's better, just different), so do your thing playboy.

    870 Marines...

I counted 59 Marines death, could be wrong...

About 50,000 Marines are deployed in combat, 929 total deaths compare to the abot 4700 killed in both wars.

Ask your p***y friend what is he going to do with his life?

  4. True friends support one another, even when they don't agree with the other's choices.  You need to give these "friends" some space and see if they come around.  If so, then they'll be there to celebrate your victories and encourage you through the difficult times... just as you will be there for them.  If they cannot get to the point of being supportive of you, then perhaps they're not the friends you think they are.

Not to worry... you will make friends with plenty of Marine Brothers who will be forever a part of your life.  They to are dealing with the weeding out of so-called friends right now...  You're all just beginning to realize what choosing a career in the military is all about.

  5. Get new friends. I shed a lot of so-called friends when I went to OCS and, guess what, I'm better off. Your true friends will stick with you. In other words, make your decision for yourself and your true friends will stand behind you afterwards.

    Good luck, Candidate.

  6. I've been through this for the last 7 months I leave for boot camp in a month. Sooner or later they will just keep their months shut and know that your not gone listen. Things you can tell them are more people have died in the USA from drunk driving accidents in one year than the total number of military personal killed in Iraq since the war started. Also you can say they should be glad there are people like you who volunteer so there is no military draft and they don't have to do it. What are you wanting to do in the Marines? You can find more information about they job you are going to be doing and when they have something to say to can go on the defense and fire back with something. Don't let anyone influence your decision!!

  7. Tell them you have made up your own mind.  It is a risky occupation, but some like military service.  My seven years in the Legion Etrangere were the best I've ever spent.  More interesting than the pencil pushing job I do now.

  8. tell them to go to hesck your your own man and do what you want

  9. If they were your friends, they would try to talk you out of it, but at the same time, respect your commitment and courage.

  10. tell them their concern is touching, then tell them goodbye.SEMPER FI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
