What can i use besides spray paint to put a design on clothing?

what about design on a bandana or handkerchief?

fabric paint, or iron on paper.  i love using iron on paper to put designs on shirts. these things can be found at any craft store.

I'd go with the tie-dye, it was hugely popular in the 70's when I was a kid, and doesn't affect the material like spray paint might.....

P.S.  I do NOT miss the 70's
