My mum has a lump inside her eye lid it's making it difficult to open and close her eye, says it isn't sore.

Is going to the doctors tomorrow but i'm worried now- she's just told me. Wasn't noticable until she said.

Anyone else had similar problems? What can it be?

  1. It's far more likely to be something easily fixable than serious, just be patient and try not to get upset - she will be fine.

  2. my, my

Well, I have the exact same problem in the same place.

It may be a stye or a chalazion. A stye or chalazion can both be surgically removed, and this is a very very minor office surgery, he justs takes out all the gunk etc, from inside you eyelid by flipping it, and cutting it open. [local anesthetic is used.) but there are various other remedies, warm hot compresses for 20-30 minutes, several times a day may reduce the size, and the doctor may prescribe eyedrops, or he may lance it with a needle and drain it out.

  3. Ok well my step-dad has the same problem (small lump visible on his lower eye lid). It wasn't cancer, it was simply a swelling of some kind but needed deflating, I think they just punctured it and treated it. Seems good now and didn't leave a scar.

  4. Don't worry she will be fine . It may be a sty if so its not serious .

  5. This is quite common i think, dont worry to much. The doctors have seen it all before and they will sort it for her.

  6. Don't worry. I was when I had exactly the same symptoms. She probably has a sty - a build up of fluid inside her eyelid. It's very easy to get rid of with a couple of eye drops or a cooled teabag placed on the eye. Hope this helped!

  7. It could also be a calcium build up, this happened to my hubby.  He went to the local eye infirmary and they scraped it out, they prescribed some anti-biotics.  It only took a few minutes.

    Wishing your mum well.
