When I was little I used to make all kinds of things to enter as exhibits in the county fair. I want my boys to do it as well but I can't think of anything for them to make. I don't really remember what I made that's wasn't really girly. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? They are 8 and 9 years old.

  1. Get them inexpensive cameras.  Have them take photos that tell a story; a beginning, middle, and end.  Such as someone getting a haircut, or washing a dog, painting a bike, etc.

Buy assorted seeds and let one glue seeds in a pattern, such as a cat.

They can also have a collection of things, such as pens, pencils, business cards, matchbooks, etc.

  2. How about a small scale replica of an old local farm or one room school house.  The seniors that see it will be brought back to their school days.

If you don't want to make a replica, then take them on a drive for picture taking.  On a piece of plywood covered with paper put the pictures up with a little written history of each building, lake or piece of land.  I live in the country too and I know the residences of our community would really get a kick out of something like that.  It would make people talk.
