my daughter who is now 18 moved to ny a little over a year ago. since she arrived in ny she has had her own place and 2 jobs. last year she tried to enroll in high school to finish her senior year but the school refused because i her parent lives in florida.

she is now 18 and again she tried to enroll but they still say i have to live in ny. im confused. she works and pays her own state and federal taxes. why and how can they deny her her education.

does anyone know what i or she can do? all she wants is to finish her senior year and graduate. she is a deans list student so her grades are not an issue.

  1. I would guess that it would have to do with enrolling in public K-12 school. She should investigate adult ed.

  2. Every State has different types of rules or laws. In the state of New York even if your 18 yrs old that already consider her as an adult, she needs the parents to sign her up in school. My daughter couldn't even sign herself up in NY, so she had to come back to the State of Florida & sign her own self in the school here to finish her senior year. Do you have any family in NY that are willing to help you.
