  1. Look toward saving money.  It usually coincides with environmental concerns.  Just look out to lower your power bill, fuel bill, take scrap metals to centers which will buy the scrap.  Don't buy stupid c**p that wastes money.  Don't get extra packaging you will just have to throw away.

  2. I carry a walking stick with a nail and pick up all the trash along my way wherever I go

  3. Drink tap water, you are saving money and reducing the waste of plastic..how easy is that.

If you have time, please read the article below. It is crazy how much space plastic water bottles take up. Good Luck

  4. The most effective thing that you can do is to learn as much as possible about it and then, most importantly, to tell lots of other people about what you have learned so that they can start to look after and support our environment.

Find out how things are made so that you know what materials are used. For example oil is used to make plastic.

Find out what happens to your recycled waste in your local area so that you can be confident that recycling is helping our environment by not using up all of our resources.

Re-cycling and not polluting are huge topics, but don't forget re-use and not creating waste in the first place. For example when I was young, milk and fruit juices etc came in glass bottles. When you finished the bottle it went back to the milk factory to be cleaned and re used. Have a look in your supermarket today. The shelves are full of plastic bottles. Rows and rows of plastic bottles even full of water that you can drink safely from taps in the UK. If you do have a plastic water bottle don't throw it away, refill it and re-use it again.

Look at the things that you buy in the shops and see where they were made. Think about the pollution and engery that is used to transport things around the world. Maybe you could have bought the same thing that was made much closer to home.

The opportunities are huge and can be a little mind boggling. It's probably best to select one or two things to start with and concentrate on those.

But, as I said, probably the most effective thing that you can do is to tell lots of other people about what you discover and get them involved in helping our environment.

You have made a great start by starting to investigate what can be done. I hope that you get many replies to your message.
