I have just gotten TeamSpeak and set up a server, but so people can connect to it i have to give out my IP, i know my friends are fine but i have to give it to people that i have not meet before, as part of this game clan i have made (Soldier Front Clan)

So i was wondering what can a person do with my IP, that would effect me seriously or even not that much but still.

Is there a way to give out not my IP but something else that people can use to connect to me?

  1. They can send packets to you. It's just like a post code and as long as all your doors are locked - there's no harm in anyone having it.

  2. Short answer, absolutely nothing. All it is is four groups of numbers with up to three digits in each separated by a period.

You can't get anyone's home address from it. Any IP finder can only give a rough location which can be up to 100 miles out.

Providing you have a decent Internet Security program and Firewall, the chances of getting hacked are totally remote. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I've been using the Internet for 14 years and have never had any problem.

  3. Sounds dodgy to me....anyone can then access your computer and download things to that ip address such as unsolicited web sites if you know what i mean....do not give your IP address out to anyone.

  4. IP is used to show what internet your using, who is using it, where you live and what you went on.

All they can is get you IP banned from websites, or download illegally and if the police track them down, they will come to you!

but if it's only for teamspeak, they can do NOTHING!

  5. Your IP is like the Address to your house..Dont give it to anyone just like that..Hackers can do anything to your PC once they (are a good enuff hacker) have your IP address....
