What can the Charlotte Bobcats do with their number 2 draft pick? – NBA Feature
The losing aura continues to stay with the Charlotte Bobcats even after the regular season has gone way beyond. Bobcats finished the regular season with the worst winning percentage in NBA History and a win-loss record 7-59.
Furthermore, they had another bruise added to their woes after they found out that even having the best chances of winning the lottery is no guarantee of the number 1 pick.
The NBA Draft Lottery took place in New York last Wednesday and the New Orleans Hornets, who had the fourth best chance of winning the number 1 pick; upset all odds to be deemed the worthy winners.
However the Bobcats had come consolation as they secured the second pick in this year`s draft.
Now with the future of the best college player Anthony Davis decided who the Bobcats will choose in the draft?
The best pick out of the lot (talent wise) for them would be to select another University of Kentucky prodigy, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist who was instrumental in the Wildcat`s run to the NCAA Championship. But, is he the answer to
their scoring woes, the answer is no.
Even though Kidd-Gilchrist is a great player but he cannot be the forefront of the Bobcats scoring in any way. He just doesn’t have the potential to carry the franchise on his shoulders so quickly and his height will also be a
problem for an already under-sized Bobcats team.
This leaves the Bobcats with two other valid choices down low in the post. Either they go for the runner up for the consensus player of the year, Thomas Robinson of the Kansas Jayhawks, who has the ability to establish himself
down low in the most and can provide the Bobcats with a huge scoring option. Bringing him to the team also helps out their point guard Kemba Walker who could use someone to help him out in the scoring.
With the scoring problems in mind, does Michael Jordan go for the option of getting a shooting guard in form of Bradley Beal out of Florida State?
If they opt to choose him with their pick, it brings a lot of spacing to the floor as he is good shooting guard and is top 5 material in the draft.
However if Beal is elected to join the Bobcats, this will bring the problem of getting rid of one of the four guards they have at their disposal at the moment. One thing is for sure that D.J. Augustin and Gerald Henderson are going
to stay with the team as they have established themselves there and are part of the rebuilding progress.
Two other interesting prospects for the Bobcats would be to consider drafting Harrison Barnes or Andre Drummond. Barnes, a sophomore out of North Carolina much like Kidd-Gilchrist, and is one of the best forwards available in the
draft this year. Harrison has spent enough time in college working to develop his game is a better perimeter shooter and is one of the best on ball defenders. He also brings the rebounding probability with his game as he is known for his hustle plays.
One of the best centres in this year`s draft would be Drummond out of the University of Connecticut and the Bobcats draft him to get the much needed size at the centre position. If they opt to select him they would get their hands
on a very good post player who in his college career has earned comparisons to the likes of Andrew Bynum.
There is also one other option that the Bobcats can choose which is to trade their first round pick to get already established players in the NBA.
However one thing is for sure that the Bobcats have a lot of rebuilding to do if they want out of the current crisis state that is looming around the franchise.
