What can the police do about threatning text messages?

i have received threatning text messages from someone and i want to report it to the police, what will the police do about it?

In the UK, they can still question them about harassment under the Protection from Harassment Act. As has been mentioned, however, the police will probably want to see some evidence.

Well, a threat is a threat. Go to your nearest police station and file a report. Next, file a restraining order against the person sending the threatening text messages. Good Luck.

can arrest the person, I saw a video about it in school. The phone companies have records of all text messages sent.

Depending where youre from, call them issue them with a warning. If its particularly bad they will find out where they are and take them in i guess. But a 'slap on the wrists' is about as much as they can do i think.

In a nutshell, you will be asked to come in, show the msgs and make a statement,  they will contact the person and give him a warning under the protection of harassment act.

If that person still persists then he might get arrested.

I had threatening emails and the Police Officer who is dealing with it was very helpful. You must keep all messages as evidence. It is an offence under the Telecommunications Act to harass, threaten, cause alarm or distress. Report it to the Police they do take it seriously. Good luck.

They may want to see the meassages...so keep them. It all depends on HOW threatening they are...if the person was saying they would kill you then that person could easily be arrested. If it was threats of violence then they could still be brought in for questioning.

The police will follow the regulations as stated in the PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence) Act, which states that when a person receives a threatening text, the police should use the phone of the threatened person to send the following text:

"Go **** yourself you faceless ************. If you want some, come and get it. Call 999 if you want me"
