The more One has, the more everyone seem to want for SELF.

Why this race fails to take off in doing good deeds towards living beings and mother nature. After all we must at minimum return what we take all our life thanklessly.

  1. I've always felt that there is a flaw in human design and that is our dependancy on other's to learn everything from. We have an innate desire to learn but no prejudice against what we learn. So, the only way to shed greed and start the process of a human effort to care for nature and living is to rear children to do so, to teach them the art of sharing and they will soak it up just as readily as kids learning to shot rifles and urinate in streams. It would take a few generations but eventually, if the effort is started, those positive qualities would become human nature. So, become a teacher, mentor a child and/ or teach your children well.

  2. great question --- but try to become a politician --- that will reveal all !!!

  3. You know, I don't know.  I teach a required environmental science course to college freshmen.  You would think that just educating the general population would be enough.  But they fight it tooth and nail.  I can teach about global warming and show my students all of the data in the world and they just say "I don't believe it.  It's a hoax."

Sadly, I think it will take the almost complete degredation of our environment to get people to wake up.

  4. Humans are greedy by nature, they crave for more and more, never satisfied with what is available.

In Vedic culture more importance is given to self improvement and equality with all beings but with coming of foreign invaders our culture has become very diluted and our people have become materialistic.

Earlier we used to call earth Mother, all the animals and birds, insects and reptiles plants and trees were given equal importance and respect. Our ancestors used to kill only to eat not to enjoy and waste, they used to pray for all living and nonliving alike. Many animals were revered as vehicles of gods and demi gods. Tiger was known as striped god of water. Elephant as Ganesh, Snake, Eagle, Rat every living creature was respected.

Our ancestors understood the relation between all living creatures, the ecological balance, the food web and importance of forests.

Now, with influence of foreign culture especially from europe we have become materialistic. Now Earth is not mother but land, Tiger is not water god but animal, trees and plants are nothing but wood and this change in thinking is the culprit. It remains a fact wherever europeans have gone they have only killed and destroyed be it living being or culture and this influence needs to be removed from our people.

For us progress is money, industries and more money without even thinking about how we are earning and loss to mother Earth. Exploitation of natural resources has become our culture. We need to revive our old cultural values and only this will be able to help us.

Nature has its own way of teaching and soon it will teach us a lesson, pollution, diseases, global warming, climatic changes, depletion of natural resources and natural disasters will make us change our thinking and way of living and if we donot change in time we will be responsible for extinction of many creatures and eventually man. A new evolution will start.

  5. The moment people realize that material things don not make you happy, and money does not = success, the better off we will be. Unfortunately, those who have money love to oppress those who do not. So, we want to become the oppressor instead of the oppressed.

  6. Brotherlyhood, love amongst living beings - these are all constantly preached by all the religions in the world and that is my answer too.

  7. hello,

Human being can shed greed easily if the prices  of

all materials and services are freezed at a level for a  fixed

period.  Once in a while after that period revise the prices

so that man earns constantly a fixed sum and every one is

    happy.

It is very important  that the world does not use any

oil for its existance. It is possible for the world to sustain on

renewable energy resources such as  WIND , WATER  &

    SOLAR  energy for its requirements.

  8. i think that makes sense. after all, its your world. why not protect the trees  before we run out of oxygen and everyone dies?

  9. The biggest % of the population doesn't know how to give back to others, let alone give back to nature. The days of the past are in the past and will remain there. 35 to 40 years ago, yes you did see a caring population, but now days with all the instability in everyone's lives, no one has the time nor do they care about anything but themselves. I myself love nature, because of the way I was brought up, but the kids over the last 20 years or so don't know or care about the value of things and by this I am talking about ecology. If this world doesn't come to some sort of understanding as to taking care of the problems of polution, world hunger, and disease in another 200 years we will either die of one of those three, or possibly all three and even if we correct a lot of these problems, in another 1000 years, this planet will not be habitable. All of our natural resourses will be used up and we will have to find other means or move off this rock to another and begin again, that is if God doesn't decide to go ahead with the judgement and take care of all of the problems this world has developed over the last 2000+ years.

  10. You must first do away with child abuse and childhood trauma so that people have the good mental health to act in virtuous ways towards others.
