What can trigger primitive reflexes in adults? I took 20mg oxycontin and woke up sucking involuntarily?

No lectures on drug use, please -- I know it's risky, I take full responsibility for my actions, and understand what I'm doing to myself. I like to experiment. Anyway:

Last night, I crushed up a total of 20mg oxycontin. I took half orally and insufflated the rest an hour later. I'm opiate naive, so I have no tolerance to it built up. I started coming down about two hours after taking it, and fell asleep two hours after that (so I fell asleep four hours after taking the oxy).

I woke up three hours later (seven hours after taking it), feeling alert and awake. I didn't get up though, just stayed there laying in bed, and noticed that I was having a sort of involuntary sucking response. I'd suck with my mouth closed a few times, then stop, then it would start again. I wasn't alarmed by it, as the action was soothing, as if I were a baby again; but I'm a little curious as to what could have caused it, or if anyone else has ever experienced this type of reaction.

  1. Oxycontin can't be the culprit.

The only drugs that precipitate "tardive dyskinesia" (involuntary tics and primitive movements due to alteration of the extrapyramidal system) are anti-psychotics.

20mg of oxycontin is a pretty hefty dose; be careful, as that stuff can stop your breathing.

  2. No long explicative necessary here. Drugs alter your brain, so I am sure your "sucking" was probably your body's response to the drugs frying some of your brain cells....Or better yet, it was a hint from God that if you continue down this "experimental path", you'll end up in a baby-like vegetative state. My advice - leave the drugs alone!
