  1. Not sure where you are from Mum2Mia but here in Western Australia they advise not prior to 6 months due to the increased risk of food allergies. I see from some of the answers here that things are done differently everywhere!! Your little one will let you know when they are ready as they will not only watch you closely when you eat, but they will try to grab your fork/spoon. Then, grab some rice cereal (rice cereal is not designed for nutrition, rather to get them used to the sensation of something other than milk, though most have iron added as around 6 months is when baby's iron stores are getting low). Make up a small amount and give her some. If she spits it back out, it can mean that she is not quite ready. If that happens, just try again the next day. Once she has mastered the rice cereal, start on pureed vegies. (I was always told to go with vegies first due to the sweetness of fruit, but I think some vegies are pretty sweet! eg pumpkin). Introduce one vegetable at a time, so if she has some kind of allergy or reaction (ie excessive wind) you will know what not to feed her straight away. She won't eat much to start with - maybe a couple of tablespoons - and at first, you give the milk and then the solids. I used to cook up a heap of vegies and freeze them in ice cube trays for convenience. There are things they shouldn't have before a certain age (here, Honey should not be eaten prior to 12 months and also eggs before cant remember when). Once you have tried a few things seperately, start to mix a few together so she can have new tastes.

And have a camera ready as the first mouthful of food can be pretty funny as they try to figure out what the heck is going on!!

  2. i would do what u think is right

my cousin started feeding her son soilds at 2 months he has teeth and crawls hes only 5 months now my daughter is 4 months and i just started giving them to her she loves them if they can move there toung back and forth then there ready a baby isnt going to say give me solids

  3. I started my son at 4 months and he's doing just fine. Actually I started my other 2 children when they were 4 mos as well. I started with giving him cereal (make it very runny at first).  Mixing it with his formula/breast milk.  Once he got used to that I started giving him applesauce which he loves.  I got the ok from his Dr to start giving him solids. I know there are some people who go by the book and start solids at 6 mos, but if you think she's ready then go for it!  Good luck!

  4. 1st off I would consult the doctor before starting on solids.. I know it sounds silly but every child is diffrent and your doctor can tell you what kind of foods your baby can eat at this stage  because you have to keep in mind that most children at this age are still eating formula or breastmilk. That some of those nutrients might be lost if you start feeding them solid foods.

My doctor told me that I should start feeding my son solids when he can eat them from a spoon. So I got the gerber cereals like Oatmeal and Rice and mixed them up using formula. I only did small amounts and feed him from a baby spoon. What ever you do.. DO NOT feed them solids from a bottle. The reason behind this is because babies have a natural urge to suck and they might over eat solids and it could rip or tear their little tummies.

Feed them from a spoon and if they are uninterested in it then don't worry. As long as they are still drinking formula or breastmilk then they don't really need anything else.

Best of luck and hope this helps :)

  5. My daughter is 3 months and when she turns 4 months then Im going to start her on cereal at night like for dinner I did that with my son also.

Here is a feeding guide for babies

My dr. gave it to me

  6. Why on earth would you do that?  The baby will indicate when she needs solid foods - there's a built in natural mechanism.  Don't mess with it!

When the baby really starts GRABBING for solid food (not just being curious, but REALLY wants it), it's soon enough.

  7. At 4 months your baby should have breast milk or formula ONLY.

At this age a baby's metabolism isn't ready to handle anything else and he/she might end up with problems later on in life.

  8. We started our son around 4 and a half months on solids, and here's what we did:

We skipped the baby "cereals" based on the fact that they are so bland and actually don't have as much nutritional value as they would have you believe.

I used the website www.wholesomebabyfood.com and it was a wonderful resource.  It gives a guideline by age as to what to introduce and how to prepare it, which is fantastic if you want to make food at home rather than spend the money on the jars of baby food.

We gave him mashed up banana and avocado first, as you don't have to prepare or cook them, then as he hit 5 and 6 months, we were on to:

    - Baked acorn and butternut squash puree

    - Lentils puree

    - Baked apples and peaches puree

    - Puree of mango, or kiwi, or blueberries mixed with yogurt

Good luck and have fun mommy!! It's quite messy but still so much fun :)

  9. Gerber stage 1 baby food. green beans, peas, meat, and applesauce.

I first gave mine tie applesauce and green beans. His Dr. said liver is good to feed them because of the nutrients.

  10. "what can u feed baby at 4 months." = breastmilk or formula

Babies don't need solids until they are 6 months.  Is there a reason you think your daughter needs to eat solids sooner?
