What can we Americans do to stop the epidemic of murders in our cities?

A tough question with no easy answers.  I see the problem as being greater than a single issue . . . but America would solve so many problems if it could find ways to rid itself of drugs and guns, and somehow teach everyone, especially the kids, to share, help others and take responsiblilty for their own actions.  Kids need to have a sense of purpose.  It&#039;s hard, I know.  Just look at how their parents behave!  

This a somewhat simplistic answer, I know, to a question about one of the evil cancers eating away at the once great country.  But it is a question that begs an idealistic response.  In order to clean up the mess that has been created it is good to have at least a vision of what you want to replace it with.  No great nation has every been created only by laws and reactions.  Every great society has to come from a core set of ideals.  What are America&#039;s?

rid the streets of gangs

unbelieveable someone gives me thumbs down for this.  they must be a murdering gang member.

its common knowledge that gang violence makes up a HUGE number of killings in our city streets.  rid the gangs and you&#039;ll see drugs and violence drop dramatically.

murder back let them know we are armed in the Netherlands every House hold is required to have a fire arm and a person trained to use it 3 murders a year and a limited number of home robberies why because every bad guy knows their is a person ready to shoot them in every house

Require the head of every household to carry a gun everywhere.

Make it easier to obtain a concealed weapons permit and start to arm the general public.THAT SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM,if every other person carried a gun,the criminals would think twice about shooting at just anyone ,right?

I think we should get people that are released from prison to educate people about how it really is. When people hear first-hand information about how absolutely horrible prison is, they might think twice about commiting a crime, whether it be a petty theft or a third-degree murder. Teens in high school especially should be educated about what will happen if they grow up to be criminals.

stop killing people who kill people to prove that killing people is wrong... or just kill everyone, and then the killing will stop.

Let the police do their job.  Get the lawyers away from the police departments, and let them go after people dressed as hoodlums, black or otherwise!!  Gah, racial profiling! Come on...............

Other than that, continue the war on drugs, shut down Mexican border, have programs so deadbeat parents can become good ones, and improve the schools.  Also, send at risks to prisons to see what life will be like for them.  It starts young.

Keep abortion legal. If children of poor people, or unwanted children are eradicated before they are born, they won&#039;t grow up to be criminals, victims of broken homes and homeless shelters. It worked in NY after legalizing abortion there, the crime rate went down. Sure, it takes some time, but nothing hard ever happens overnight.

People need to raise their children the right way, like without predjudice and violence. When i was growing up, i&#039;m only 32, murder was unspoke of, and it happened, but it seemed like it happened in the bigger cities and people usually had motive for doing it. Today kids are killing kids, for what, their lunch money, their ipod, or just because it lookes cool on grand theft auto.

I have children and they play video games, and they especially like grand theft auto, but it doesn&#039;t mean that they want to kill someone, but it&#039;s the kids that don&#039;t have stability and assurance from the adult, either two parent or single parent home, that get bored with the usuals of sitting around the house and watching the tube or riding their bike or reading a book or whatever, that they feel they have to prove something to someone else.  Peer pressure also is a big thing.

Children need positive adult interaction, that would be the biggest help in America.

with regrets its hard raising children in poor areas, so the kids band together do some rec drugs, listen to thug music and next thing u know they steal a weapon, if they had a good education and able to work some type of program after school making some monies i feel the gangs would slow down =less killing, so education is my answer

they say guns don&#039;t kill people.......stupid people with guns kill people. would those stupid people include:

--juvenile delinquents

--a kid that was playing with an adults gun

--the man who accidentally shot his daughter while trying to kill an intruder

--an innocent kid caught in a drive by

--an old woman sitting in her house who gets hit and killed by a stray bullet that came through a window in her house

--a cop who is trying to serve and protect the community

....................anyway, you get my point. if guns did not exist, there would still be dead people, but there would be a lot less dead people.

FU** YOUR 2nd AMMENDMENT RIGHTS. HAVING GUNS IN EVERY HOME DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE OTHER WAYS PEOPLE CAN PROTECT THEMSELVES. IF JUST ONE OF YOUR DAUGHTERS/NIECES/SISTER WAS THE YOUNG GIRL MENTIONED ABOVE HOW WOULD YOU FEEL ABOUT GUNS THEN!!!!!

MORE GUNS WILL NEVER EVER SOLVE ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!WE WOULD JUST HAVE MORE CRIME!!
