What can we do about the threats associated with space tourism and flying cars?

Should space tourism and flying cars have strict regulation?

Space tourism is getting much closer. It is also foreseeable that flying cars will become a reality this century.

Shouldn't we care about environmental and aesthetic concerns regarding this?

We should never be too quick to act when it comes to embracing new technology. If we do embrace it too quickly, I envision a world filled with space pollution and eye soars that we can never escape. Imagine going to your favorite nature getaway and having cars flying above you. Imagine environmental air concerns expanding beyond our atmosphere into outer space. Or looking up to the sky and barely being able to see the stars because of all the manmade objects in the air. It's a scary thought.

It's easiest to act now before the industry becomes too big and it becomes an overbearing problem.

I'd like to hear ideas on what we can do to protect our future from this threat.

  1. There will never be flying cars because the air traffic and safety problems.

Space tourism will never be common enough to be a problem. The only reason cars are a problem is that there are about a billion of them. There will never be that many space tourism vehicles. Not nearly that many.

  2. Don't say this will never happen because it can and most likely will.  Probably within these next two centuries.  We're driving earth to it's death right now.  People don'tu nderstand that this will effect their life, maybe not soon but it will.  And it will effect our grandchildern.  All this polution is really taking a toll.  Everyone knows it but nobody wants to admit it and do something about it.  I think all we can do is protest against this kind of stuff and really try and bring up the topic of polution.  A single voice is all it would take to get america involved, we just need to find that voice within us.

  3. nope. i think space tourism and flying cars will be neat. definetly a learning experience, on the space tourism bit

  4. As far as flying cars go, we have a pretty good system regulating who can fly things and where they can go.  It's run by a little-known government agency called the FAA.  Have you heard of them?

The FAA has an Office of Commercial Space Transportation, established in 2004 to deal with the things you've mentioned.

At this time it would be imprudent to enact any significant regulations, as nobody really knows what space tourism is going to look like.

(It doesn't do to regulate something that isn't causing any problems, not to mention the fact that that it doesn't exist yet....)
