My mom's youngest cat (2yr old male) is peeing all over & suddenly has blood in his urine, we looked it up online and apparently he has a urinary tract infection is there something we can do for him at home while waiting for his appointment?

  1. You need to get him to the vet as soon as possible.  I understand that weekends are hard times and more expensive if you can find a vet that's either an emergency vet open on weekends or a regular vet willing to come in on an emergency, but if there's any way you can afford this, it's the best for Rusty! If you just can't, to keep him from soiling all over the house, confine him to a room like a bathroom and if you can get it down him, cranberry juice may help a little just like it helps humans. (try using a syringe without a needle if you have one, but be prepared for a fight--rolling him up in a towel so his claws can't get to you helps, but you have to do it right and tightly) Even if you can get it down him, he still needs to go to the vet tomorrow--tell them he's got bloody urine!

Good luck to you both and I hope Rusty recovers quickly!

  2. One of my cats had the same problem. He was on his death bed. You need to find a place that is open and take your cat in there right NOW. They can run some tests and give you good medicine for the cat. We had to change to a special cat food, since we did that, he has never had any more problems but I do have to give him a pill in his food every two days. Dont wait til tomorrow or the cat could die, go now. They told me if I had waited a couple more hours, he wouldn't have made it.

  3. As long as he can still pee, its an infection, NOT a blockage (which does require emergency care). Has his appointment already been made? He WILL need to go in a.s.a.p.,theyll give him antibiotics, so make sure you tell them its bloody. Attempt to give him plenty of fluids, so he can contine to try to flush things out. If he becomes blocked its a lot more serious, however I had a  kitty  lost for 3 days with a BLOCKAGE who is fine now. He did have to spend 2 days in the hospital, but my point was he was blocked for more than a few hours.

  4. He needs an emergency vet NOW.  Don't wait to make an appointment.

  5. Clavamox will usually get rid of FLUTD but get him to the emergency vet now.
