What can we do in Brisbane for a week in June?

We have 2 children to entertain aged 12yrs and 15yrs old and want to know what activities we can do in Brisbane as well as if there are any events/daytrips/overnight trips we can do from Brisbane while we're there as well?

Take the train down to the gold coast, visit our beaches and there are heaps of theme parks.

There are heaps of things you can do in Brisbane there is the Australian zoo which is north of Brisbane about an hr, also the kids would love the theme parks on the Goldcoast there about 2hrs away theres Movie world,Dream world and sea world and wet and wild  they are all fun. Theres the ferry ride into the city  oh yes there is also Kingston park my 11yr old loves going there, theres the sunshine coast as well which is north of brisbane. There are heaps of things to do you may wanna check out this site its the brisbane city site it has some information on it which may be very helpful to you www.ourbrisbane.com.au I use to live in Brisbane a few yrs back and loved it plenty for the kids to do and as my nephews would say (who are 16 and 13) the theme parks you have to check out hope you have a nice trip.

Do you really want to come in June?  It's almost winter here, it gets cold, right now would have been  a better time, just a thought.  And yes what they said, all those paces are great to go to!  Also you should visit the sunshine coast, it's so beautiful up here, you could rent a unit and they could play on uncrowded beaches!!  Hope your trip is lovely!

*Museum (free entry)

*Science centre

Just south of brisbane (about 1/2-1 hr drive depending on where you are staying, can catch the train too) is the Gold Coast - there are heaps of things to do there....

*theme parks - dreamworld and white water world, seaworld, movie world, wet'n'wild

*Australian spectacular - australian outback/horse show, including dinner and drinks

*'Draculas' themed 'horror' restuarant - live stage show everynight which is horror themed but would be fine for kids your age, i've been twice and its great!

*Jet boat rides

*'Aqua duck' - bus that turns into a boat and does a 2hr tour

*visit the Q1 - australias highest residential building that has an observatory on top with a fantastic view

*visit surfers paradise and spend the day walking around the shops and attractions

those are all the things I can think of that two kids would also enjoy. I think being on the gold coast which is just south of brisbane is a great idea. The train travels from brissy to the gold coast and then you can take the bus wherever you want to go

Day trip to Tangalooma Bay - feed wild dolphines - swin in man made wreck!

Fraser Island - lake mckenzie is so lush!!

There is the theme parks on the Gold Coast about one and half hours drive from Brisbane. south

Movie World

Sea World (a must see that kids will love)

Dream World (mostly rides)

Then there is the Sunshine coast about one and half hours drive from Brisbane north:

Have dinner at the Woolshed and enjoy a good Australian bush band and great food(need to ph. to confirm this as it has been a while since I was there)

For a day in the mountains:

Head to the Gold Coast Hinterland, Springbrook National Park, Natural Bridge, Numinbah Forest Reserve. Again a few hours drive and best to spend the night somewhere at the Gold Coast and perhaps if you wanted to do theme parks there stay a few nights.

Anyway, the forest are spectacular especially since we have had a lot of rain in that region and the creek will be flowing and the waterfalls a brilliant sight.  Lots of moss,, good for exercise and absolutely breathtaking scenery. Take a picnic and best of all it is free.

For a day in Brisbane that is cheap:  catch a train to Southbank Station, walk over to the southbank parkland, catch a citycat boat for a boat ride up the river, come back, have a swim at southbank, buy lunch, visit the museum (every kid loves this one) , hop back on train and go to train museum at Ipswich.  You can buy a ticket called a translink ticket and can last all day for one fare.  Only museum and train museum you have to pay to get into.

Apart from the ones already mentioned , a day or two on Moreton Island  at the Tangalooma Resort is a must !

It  is a fantastic place , deep blue waters , no noise or traffic & a little history as well ! It was a whaling station till the '60s but we are blessed to have a tropical paradise so close to Brisbane.

You get there on a large cat leaving from the Brisbane River, near the container wharves.

Also if you go to the north coast to see the Australia Zoo , it's only a few minutes to visit underwater world at Mooloolaba.

There are lots of things to do. Particulary in the Gold Coast, if you want to have a really stylish apartment if you're going to get an apartment, Circle On Cavill is excellent. There is Movie World, Dreamworld, Sea World, Wet N Wild. In the Gold Coast's CBD there is one of the best beaches in the world, infinity (a pretty fun maze that your kids will like), the night life is pretty good aswell.

Theirs Mount Cootha South of Brisbanes CBD, it gives you a really good 240 degree view of the 3rd biggest city in the world - Brisbane. They're just a few ideas, i reccommend checking out mount cootha.

My son is 10 and loves going up and down the Brisbane on the "city cats".  You can get off and on at any stop but get of at South bank.  You can either bring lunch or buy it at Southbank.  There is the Queensland Maratine Museum, markets, the man made beach (too cold to swim in June) and really interesting walkways.  Its just a great place to visit.  Across from Southbank you could get off and have a look at the Queensland museum.  That place is amazing especially for boys!!!.  For a great view of the city try going up the city hall clock tower.  The last two places I mention both have free entry.  Its also free at Southbank but the Maratine museum costs.  For a truly "Australian" experience why not try the outback spectacular.  The myfun link tells you about entry in theme parks and the outback spectacular.

There's plenty to do in Brisbane, there's plenty of shops and South Bank has a big entertainment centre with plenty of shows and plays. You could go down for a day to surfers paradise and spend a day on the beach at the Gold Coast, also on the Gold Coast there are some awesome theme parks such as, Dream World, Movie world, Sea World and wet and wild, dream world is diffanatly my fave. If you want an over night trip, about an hour and a half away is the Sunshine Coast (where I live) there are many towns and beaches that make up the sunny coast but my fave places here are Coolum and Moloolaba, both with Gorgous beaches, at Coolum too there is a mountin called Mt. Coolum, that has a chalanging walk to the top, with some slopes too but there's a beuatiful look out at the top with views of the beach. I've been up there and some parts are a little hard (I was 13 when I did it) but it was really worth it if you like exercise lolz and it's free. So many oportunities in Queensland is awesome, but diffanatly all the places I said are worth while going to. Have fun. :]

Edit:- Also I forgost to just add, Alma park zoo. It's in Brisbane and not a zoo with many African animals or anything, but it has deer, and monkeys and all types of Aussie animals and it's in Brizzy so you wouldn't have to travel far and it's gost a park you can eat at and it's awesome.
