Question:

What can we do in Cavan, Ireland?

We like the outdoors (cycling, hiking, sailing, running), a seisiúin, family stuff (now that we've small kids), a good pint, watching a good game of iománaíocht or peil. We've got a car, and we're going to be staying two weeks in Cavan from the 15th July on.

Suggestions for what we can do, and where we can go?

  1. Go to Lough Sheelin, there is some great fishing to be had there.

Also about three miles across the border into Meath there is a place called Loughcrew. It is ancient passage tombs much like the ones in New Grange but with out the tourists, it still has it's natural beauty & setting. You have to climb a  bit of a hill to get to it though. Really well worth a trip! You may still be able to get keys to enter the tomb itself, ask in any of the shops in the local town of Oldcastle & they will direct you to where you may be able to get these (for a small deposit).
