I would love to adopt in the near future, but I don't like the idea of dealing with c**p from holes in the system. I will deal with those problems if I have to when the time comes, but what can we do to help adoption reform to fill in some of those holes?

  2. Identify the area that you feel you can make the most impact.

If it is about the issues of the child

    issues of the birth/biological parents

    Foster Care system

    International Adoption

....or the variety of other things that are or may be messed up...

First you need to figure out WHAT to focus on as there is simply so many ways and needs for reform that in no person could ever advocate for every area...

For me my advocacy at THIS time is in the area of Foster Care and Post Adoption Support and Services... because, I have been through this and these areas affect our daily lives...

In the 1980's and 1990's my advocacy was for Open Records as I was the mother of two children with an adopted father...  I was able to see change for my efforts in the state of Oregon and the birth records are now open...

There is NO one place needed reform, changes and leadership so It depends on what area you have the ability and heart to work on.

  3. demand open records.

  4. I wish I knew the answer to your question... The holes as you stated are there because of experiences. (they say)  I want to adopt also, but because they make adoption so difficult and expensive. It forces me and my wife to reconsider.  We have a steady income, we have a nice house, we love and have more to give. but the costs involved become too overwhelming.  If there are children that need loving parents, the governments shouldn't make the adoption more difficult.
