  1. Not everything costs money.  They key to solving any problem that seem too large is breaking it down into smaller components.  You've got to pick one or two topics to focus on.  It's important to keep current on as much of the "big picture" as you can, but some of that requires specialized education, and it may be best just to leave those to the experts.  If you really like the topic, take a few courses, or buy a book (or get one from the library).  Universities are a wonderful resource on almost anything.  You've got to develop a knowledge base of background information to understand the details.

Now that Bush is leaving office all kinds of exciting things are starting to happen!  I think 2008 is going to be a much better year for planet earth.

Here are a few things from today's head lines that may spark an idea.  Once you have something in mind, network with other people interested in the same thing, and hook up with organizations, both local and National and International.  Good Luck and God Bless!

  2. Pleeeze!  Have you forgotten the old american wisdom "follow the money trail"?

  3. IM TRYING.  and beign on a tight budget dosent change anything!  you can unlpug things you arnt using (hairdryer, tv when its not on, lamps, etc..) that will use less energy AND save you money on your bill! 2 birds with one stone! also, if you buy water bottles get the ones with 30% less plastic.  always make sure your car tires are full.  carpool when you can, and SPREAD AWARNESS! so many people dont no the severity of this huge issue.

  4. I agree!! The government should do more. And so should everyone else, solar panels are a great idea. Our local council has refused to take sum of our rubbish to recycle! that is not helping whatsoever. just so long as lots of people keep recycling without the government then the world will still have hope.

  5. The government is the cause of most of our problems, not usually the solution to it.

Nobody is trying because an increasingly large number of people realize that this is all a big waste of resources.

  6. Your right the climate is changing, we have had the coldest winter on record in years and we just received another large snow fall.  We need to prepare for the upcoming ice age it is on the way what do we do? What do we do?

  7. You are asking for consumption solutions (which increase energy use). If you are really serious about doing something you need the opposite solution. Instead of "creating" solutions (solar panels, conversion kit's, etc.) which all use energy to create and causes pollution. You need to reduce consumption. Move to a smaller home and use less energy to heat it, get rid of your car and use a bike or walk.

Stop looking for someone else (the government) to solve your problem and do it yourself. Most people won't because it will cause them a hardship. 99% of the people who "claim" to be environmentalist are just hypocrites looking for someone else to do the hard work.

  8. i hear tell  that it's colder now than it's been in a long time, somebody should check up on this before getting  all bent out of shape.

  9. at personal level should neccesary

  10. do you have a garden? or do you have allotments in the u.s.? growing your own veg., even a bit of salad does cut your energy use, and also feels like you are doing something so worthwhile, it lifts your spirits like nothing else.

also, you can store carbon in your soil, by building it up with compost. even better; if you have a wood burner or place for bonfire, add the ash; the bits of charcoal last for centuries.

  11. Why don't you bother learn about history instead of focusing only on hysterics.  The fact is, periods of warming brought prosperity.   Periods of cooling have brought calamity.  Humans are not responsible for the current warming.  At most we might have added to it.  Your belief that the warming is necessarily bad reveals something about the way you look at life, and your gullibility.  I suggest you learn a little skepticism and try and be more optimistic.  Sometimes a nice warm day is just that, a nice warm day.

  12. Climate change is normal. The climate is always changing. Man cannot significantly change the climate. CO2 is a minor greenhouse gas and is dwarfed by water vapor.

Even if CO2 was the cause, the only thing we can do is to develop a non carbon based fuel to replace it and convince other countries like China and India to stop burning coal and to use our new technology and they have lots of coal to burn. Until we do that, we are stuck with carbon based fuels.

  13. Considering 80% of our impending climate change is due to natural solar cycles and Earth orbit eccentricities (proven by Mackovich Earth orbit and Vostok Co2 fluctuation ice core studies), and it has taken over 200 years of industrial pollution to create our share of it (about 20%)… no short term action will have any immediate effect.  In theory, if we immediately stopped using Co2 producing energy sources, we could expect to see a reversal of our contribution (that’s only 20% remember) to climate change within 100 to 150 years.

I will remind you of the Chicken Little’s a few years back that forecast an end to life on earth if we didn’t do something about the ozone holes at the poles… we stopped using flouocarbon aerosols in spray-cans (a decidedly symbolic gesture) and voila, the ozone hole problem was solved (but the ozone holes are still there, unchanged, because they are now known to be a natural phenomenon due to the earths magnetic field).

The interesting part of this climate change scenario is the total lack of any meaningful action.  Predictions are grim, we could be facing global extinction of Homo Sapiens within 200-500 years, but all the politicians are doing is jockeying for power.

The truth is, if we immediately cut back fossil fuel use world wide by 10% it would plunge the world into political chaos, millions starving in first few years.  It was studied years ago what would be the outcome if the population of China added one egg a day to their diet.  The answer surprised most people…. To add one egg a day, the additional number of chickens would consume all the grain currently produced daily, worldwide.  Back to the drawing board…

  14. Even if you don't care/believe about global warming cutting back on energy use can save you money.

For every $1 in efficiency you spend about $5 is saved in generation (From solar/wind/hydro installation guidelines)

Only you can help with your energy use... Do you really think politicians that get large donations by energy companies etc will do a whole lot to reduce your energy bill? (Rep & Dem get $$$)

Drive less/slower 65 vs 70 mph can save you about 3%

Combine trips (Do more than one thing when you leave the house and come back)

    Inflate tire pressures

Ride a bike - go somewhere and get exercise! (Save on gym membership)

    Live closer to work

Lower your thermostat in Winter, Raise it in Summer.

Wear more than shorts and t-shirt in the house in winter.

    Insulate

Build solar collectors for your windows out of recycled material.

    Open your fridge less

    Go to bed earlier

Unplug/turn off things that go on standby.

Read books instead of watch TV

  15. One sure way to see if there is even a Global warming crisis.  Follow the money, where does the money go to.  Companies like Al Gore's benefit.  That would be convenient.  Research the Prohibition act of 19... it was not that we were consuming too much alcohol, it was to put home distillers out of business and make it illegal for us to produce our own, (which was Henry Ford's intention, all cars ran on alcohol in the begining).  The Less product we create in the US the worse off we are.  We need manufacturing here, we need inventors here.  Our Dollar is based on what we make, not export.
