  1. Our greatest threat to planet earth is from our consumption of energy using lights, heat, cooling, transportation, and from manufacturing products we buy. If you buy stuff from China, you need to remember that aside from the scares we have witnessed lately about recalls, they also pollute much worse than more developed countries. And since the planet is pretty much a bubble in space, what they put in the water and air is here for good and we all get to live with it.

So limit your Chinese purchases, use compact florescent lighting where practical, keep your heating and cooling under control (insulate and conserve), and use less gasoline by grouping your trips together and walking, biking, or taking public transport where possible.

That's a decent recipe for a lower carbon footprint.

  2. build EARTHSHIPS - dont know what Im talking about google "earthship"   -very inspirational

  3. Please conserve energy and shower together, people!

  4. I recycle ... and I am teaching my 2 small girls to recycle (they are 4 and 5 yrs. old).  I also try to conserve water in my house .....

That is about all I have the energy for these days (lol) ..... as a single Mom trying to keep her wits about her.

  5. There are so many things you can do. One great way to help is to buy more sustainable products. There are a lot of  organic, recycled, and natural options for the products you are going to buy anyway. There are a few places you can start to look for these products. You can start with the National Green Pages (www.coopamerica.org/pubs/greenpages/) , a directory of businesses that sell these products. Also, stop by my blog (www.guffly.com) for more info on cool, attractive products and practices that are better for the environment.

Besides recycling the plastic containers, you can improve your work or home environments by bringing live potted plants indoors.

    Major items needed:

One empty plastic gallon container.   Tree Top Apple Juice is preferred, or equal in shape.

One empty plastic ½ gallon container.  Langers All Pomergranate Juice is preferred or equal.

Directions:  Lay the plastic gallon container on its side so the front label is facing up.  Place the empty plastic half gallon container on the label and with a sharpie pen outline the bottom on the Tree Top label and with a sharp knife carefully cut the outline.  Insert the half gallon into the hole until it rest on the back label of the gallon container.  Then mark and cut approximately one inch above the cut on the ½ gallon  to complete your planter container.  Remove and drill several ¼ inch holes on the bottom of the ½ gallon cut container for drainage.

Fill the cut ½ gallon planter with one inch of gravel before putting in good potting mix soil and live growing plant.  If you make two or more you can pour the water back and forth and not waste the water with the nutrients.

  10. Oh so much stuff!

Simple little things like using a cloth bag rather than plastic.

    Make your own -

this reduces the amount of plastic going into the landfill and by recycling old fabric you can help a charity, reduce the emissions made by producing and transporting new bags.

At home turn your thermostat down by 1 degree, close your curtains when it gets dark - this retains the heat, switch off lights when not in the room, use energy efficient lighting.  - All these things reduce emissions and save you money.

Recycle, not just paper cardboard, plastics and tins but your food waste too. Get a green cone or build a compost heap in your garden, this puts it to good use and reduces the amount going to landfills and the amount of rubbish trucks on the road as well as the amount of bin bags you will use.

Buy in bulk where you can. This cuts down on packaging and transportation plus it will cost you less too, also buy locally to cut down on 'food miles'

Get some soapnuts. Soapnuts are a pure and natural detergent, environmentally friendly, allergy free, ecological and economical.

Soapnuts grown in India are harvested in a sustainable way, the nuts are dried and the shells contain saponin, a natural detergent. When added to water they form mild soap suds providing an organic, environmentally friendly alternative to detergent, soap and shampoo.

Soapnuts are allergy free so good for sensitive skin, babies and people with eczema. They contain no chemicals and are a natural organic product. They are biodegradable so simply throw them in your compost bin after use.

Use natural and harmless cleaning products such as white (distilled) vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice.

  11. Mass suicide? Naw but learn to walk instead of drive, quit being so wasteful, shut down all nuke plants until there's a proper way to dispose of waste. Basically just quit being dumb and start appreciating what we have before it's too late.~~Peace~~
