  1. If you have an office just keep a cup or big jug then you wouldn't need to worry about the water bottles.

  2. I drink tap water...

did you know some bottled waters are just cleverly marketed tap water...

COKE won an award for WORST PRODUCT EVER - Dasani bottled water - which is actually only Tap Water!!! hahaha on the idiots that buy it....

tap water in most places is safer and better for you - because some bottled waters are "PURE" they actually lower your bodies immunity levels...

or people could just recycle.. not all countries require deposits on pop bottles and water bottles but they should as more people do recycle when these charges are in place..

  3. Other than drinking less water?

I suppose buying larger bottles would be a start.  More water per square inch of plastic, etc.

Some water bottle manufacturers are developing more efficient bottles which hold the same amount of water with less plastic.

Or you could drink tap water.

  4. Purchase water filter systems for use in your home and use tap water.

If you travel with water - use a washable, reusable bottle[Nalgene® is virtually unbreakable, Wide-mouth design allows use of ice cubes, is easy to clean, and freezes more slowly than narrow-mouth models]

If you do purchase water - buy water FROM closer to home (water transported from further away uses more energy).

  5. BRING YOUR OWN AND REFILL IT FROM THE HOUSE GENIUSES!

  6. I buy one large bottle, usually a 33.8 fl.oz, and then I refill throughout the day from the refrigerator water. I also refill, and store extra's in my fridge for later. I throw them out after about a week.

  7. Waterbottles - everyone wake up and realize that bottled water is generally about as good as tap water.  It's just very convenient to grab a bottle out of the cooler when on the road travelling...

Water consumption - unpopular answer but really the best: fewer people.  A microscope fraction of the planet's water is accessable fresh water.  That percentage is pretty much fixed, and yet every second there are more people who need something to drink.

  8. We have what might be the world's best water flowing out of our taps and yet bottled water has become a $15-billion-a-year industry!

Something is seriously wrong with the values this country has.

The good news is that product category is coming under attack.  According to an article in The New York Times (see link below) by Ian Daly, "Politicians are banning the bottles, and restaurateurs are wiping them off their menus, calling attention to the ecological costs of moving millions of bottles around the world and around the United States — not to mention disposing of all those containers."

Environmentalists began targeting bottled water as an unnecessary product that was more geared to creating personal image, rather than any actual health benefits.  It seems to be working.  Both Pepsi, Coke and Nestle have reported slumps in sales.

Lets hope that continues.  Turn back to your tap!
