Question:

What can we do to stop banks from "steeling" our money?

I know banks make money out of over draft fees. I saw how they rearranged my account so they posted the highest charge and send my account spiral down with charge after charge. so instead of one charge they forced four, what can we people do to them? I would not rob them, but they legally do us every second, after all life takes visa!

should we revolt and dump their charge cads and relearn how to use cash?

  1. Cash is king

  2. Learn to use cash, and/or learn to balance your checkbook.

They do not force you to overdraft.

  3. "steeling"? - you mean converting it to steel?

  4. Actually, you should be able to just walk in and insist that they reverse the charges.  Explain to them that you know when YOU processed each charge, and that THEY clearly reordered things to make a profit.  Remind them that the government doesn't look kindly on this type of behavior, and let them know how upset you'd be if you have to talk to a lawyer about it.

They're likely to respond fairly quickly.  :)

  5. 1. Use credit unions instead of big banks.

    2. Pay cash.

  6. Have enough cushion money in your account. If you are using a debit card, transactions may take days to post so don't ever go by the value your bank gives you because that is not your "true" balance. If this is your first time they might agree to reverse the charges. All in all cash is always the best option.

  7. Nothing, because they arent "stealing" it.

Your own lack of control over the misuse of your account causes it to be overdrawn, and it DOES cost money to have a NSF check returned and re-processed.

Life may take Visa... but you are charged INTEREST and membership fees for that.

  8. Just find another bank you like better.

I started out at one bank just because that was my parents' bank (still is), and they would just keep charging you and charging you if you were over the limit, so I switched banks.  (Which took forever, because whenever I wanted to close the account, the person who "had the authority" to do that was never there... so here I was annoyed with them anyway, and then it was like they wouldn't let me leave.... "GRR..)

The bank that I'm at NOW, I really like.  They'll only charge overdraft fees so long before they'll just close the account.

I like my new bank much better.  They're a little more to-the-point, no nonsense.

And most importantly..... don't let your account become overdrawn!
