I'm cooking a lovely family meal for 8, i've decided on sirloin steak from the butchers, big juicy steaks cooked on my George Foreman, but i don't know what to have with it as a meal.

So far i've thought of:-

Jacket Potatoes

Salad

And some kind of sauce to accompany it, but i don't know what sauce's go with steak.

If you were cooking Steak as part of a meal, what other things would you put with it.

Chips (Chipped Potatoes) isn't an option, as we don't own a frying pan and we never eat chips.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

  1. Its making me hungry just thinking about it !

  2. oven fries and some fried onions (in circles)

    yummmyy

  3. garlic mash and grilled vegies

  4. i would stick with the jacket potatoes and salad..

Make a sauce with fresh sliced mushrooms and sauteed with quartered sliced onions... when they are cooked through add a can of beef broth or a couple cups of water and some bullion cubes... once its at a boil pour in a corn starch and water mixture to thicken just a bit.. season it with some garlic and fresh cracked black pepper.

  5. Overnight Hashed Brown Potato Casserole

    Ingredients:

    (8 servings)

2 lb Frozen hashed brown potatoes

    1/4 lb Butter

    1 pt Sour cream

    1 can Mushroom soup

    8 oz Cheddar cheese; shredded

1 Onion; grated or 1 T. instant minced onion

    3/4 c Milk* (optional)

    Instructions:

Cut butter into potatoes. Mix rest of ingredients together; pour over top of potatoes. Toss. *1/4 - 3/4 c. milk can be used in place of one-half of the sour cream. It will make a moister casserole, if desired. Bake in a 13x9" pan at 350 for 1/2 hr covered and an additional 1/2 hr. uncovered. I have used Cheddar Cheese soup, but reduce the butter as it will be greasy with both. I also put additional shredded cheese on top during the second half hour of baking. Doubles well. Can be refrigerated overnight after mixing all together.

  6. mushrooms fried in butter .....yummy, and coleslaw.

you can fry the mushrooms in a sauce pan gently, with butter.

  7. Large stuffed mushrooms.

    Salad.

    New potatos in Garlic sauce.

    Or hot pepper sauce.

  8. butter beans cooked with either ham pieces or ham bone, for salty flavor.

  9. I love stuffed baked potatoes. Bake your potato in the jacket, cut it open and top with broccoli and cheese sauce, then more cheese. Return to the oven until the cheese melts. Here, I found the recipe I use, and it really is awesome..

    ***Ultimate Stuffed Potato***

    4 medium-sized Idaho potatoes

    Extra-virgin olive oil

    Kosher salt

    1/2 stick butter

    1/4 cup all-purpose flour

    1/2 cup milk

About 2 cups, plus more for topping, shredded sharp white Cheddar

2 heads broccoli, florets, blanched in salty water

1/2 pound bacon, medium dice, cooked until crisp

    2 tablespoons chives, chopped

    Freshly ground black pepper

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Begin by baking the potatoes, as this will take the longest. Place potatoes onto a baking sheet. Pierce with a fork, drizzle with olive oil and season with salt. Place into preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour.

While they are baking prepare the stuffing. Make a mornay sauce by combining the butter and flour over medium heat and then whisking in the milk. Fold in about 2 cups cheese and stir until melted. Once melted, remove from heat and fold in the cooked broccoli florets, crispy bacon bits, chopped chives and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

When the potatoes are done make a cut across the top and squeeze it from the bottom so a small pouch opens up and the bottom is squared off. Spoon the filling over the top of the potato, sprinkle with cheese, season with pepper, to taste, and then pop in the oven for 2 more minutes until golden brown and bubbly.

  10. Hello Rita,

A steak with jacket potatoes on each plate and with two salad bowls on the table so that both are within reach of everyone.   Mushrooms.  Dishes of butter for the potatoes and mild mustard and horseradish sauce in other small dishes.

Cabernet Sauvignon or (and) Chardoney wine.

    Bon appetite.

  11. What's wrong with chips?  I eat oven chips sometimes and they are great - very low oil content and you only have to heat them in the oven - no frying pan or chip pan required.

Lately, I've been seduced by potato wedges.  They are somewhere between an oven chip and a jacket potato - slightly seasoned and definitely something I would want with a steak.

  12. Cesar Salad - Video:

Microwave baked potatoes...go to the store and pick up plastic sealed-wrapped baking potatoes.  DO NOT take off the plastic.  Read the directions on the plastic.  These will take about 7 minutes to cook in the microwave.  You can wrap your own if you wish.  Serve with butter and sour cream.

  13. Roast potatoes, fried tomatoes, mushroom and onions, with egg salad.

  14. I love fresh garden peas, sauted onions and mushrooms, and mash with steak.  Don't forget the garlic butter too.  Lovely !

  15. I am so glad that you do not fry foods because it is really unhealthy.

But why not steam some frozen vegetables, either in the microwave or in a double boiler?

Also, make some mash and mix it with egg and a little milk and make a sort of "fish cake " with it, only you do not make it with fish... Only mash.

We call it oven roasted mash fritters. They are lovely with a crisp outer but soft inner potato mash fritter.

Also serve a salad of sorts.

    As for gravy or sauce...

Why not open a packet of soup mix and mix it with about 200 ml cold water and bring to the boil.

Serve it as a sauce in a little sauce boat. That way you can have two or three sauces to suit the whole family.

One mushroom sauce, one beef/oxtail sauce and one monkey gland sauce (which is just a tomato soup sauce mixed with a little hot chutney)...

    Enjoy your meal.

  16. Mashed potatoes and sweet yellow corn are scrmptious with steak.

    Enjoy!

  17. Baked (jacket) potatoes definitely, with butter & sour cream.

This time of year Corn on the Cob, in north america.

    Cole slaw or cabbage salad.

I'd use Worcestershire Sauce or Steak Sauce like A1 or HP.

  18. I'd have chips and possibly a few garden peas too - but what possessed you to waste money on one of those messy grills - anybody else uses the grill on the cooker - that way you can SEE what your food is doing and adjust if and as necessary.

  19. Red wine sauce and saute potatoes

  20. Fried mushrooms, tomatoes and eggs.
