What can you do legally if someone keeps calling harrasing you?

its been happening for a while now... they would call and make noise..harass.. and keep calling.. one night they called and then my mom picked up and they kept on calling her names and all of that inappropriate stuff... i want to make legal action..what can i do.?

If they're threatening in any manner. call the police and file a police report, then a TRO in court.

There are laws against telephone harrassment but you must contact the police first.

   Assuming that you know who is doing this, you need to send them a certified letter demanding no contact in any form.  This will include telephone calls.  Then, if the calls continue, you report it to the police, who will give you a case number.  Then you contact the telephone company and give them the case number.  They will keep records of any calls from that person to your phone and give the records to the police.  They will not give the records to you directly.  If you want, you can keep track of the telephone calls.  Each time you get one, press *67 on your phone.  That will tell you the telephone number the call came from.  Although caller ID tells you the number, it does not show up on your bill, so you have no court admissable proof.  If you do the *67 thing, it does show up on your bill, which will be admissable in court.  There is a charge-I think it's a dollar-for each call they record, but that's a small price to ultimately get this stopped.  You might want to check with your telephone company to see if *67 is the right number.  It is for my company, but yours might have a different system in place.

Can you prove that someone is harassing you?  Do you have recordings of the harassment?  Do you know who is doing the harassment?  Do you have proof?  Unless you can answer yes to these questions there isn't much the cops can do.  Get the proof and they'll be all ears.

File a complaint with the Police and half a wire tap put on your phone. Is IS legal. The telephone Company will put it on when you get an order to do so with the Police,

File a police report. You can record the call, but it's not admissible as evidence.

Anywho, you can have the police tap your phone to record evidence properly.

Alternately, you can have their calls blocked, but it costs money to do this, and doesn't stop the idiots from doing the same thing with another phone.
