What can you do when you are FRUSTRATED with your overall golfing ability?

On the weekend.. I probably shot my 2 worst rounds this year. Just 25 points (Stableford). I am really frustrated with it. Its not like Im not practicing properly because I am. (Well thats what I think anyway)

What can I do? Could it be because of the other stressful things in my life right now? Quitting is really not an option an you can see... I love my golf. Its just really frustrating at the moment mentally.

What do you do after a week of bad rounds? Do you practice more or do you just totally forget about golf for a while? What do YOU do?

  1. Maybe you should buy a Wii......

  2. After a bad round I try to let it go intially, then focus on what went wrong with the round, was it poor iron play, was I way off on the tee, was my putting horrrid....I then try to practice with solid fundamentals in mind, such as good set up, good body turn, etc.  I also seek out a lesson from my local Pro to try to get back on track hope this helps you...

  3. A bad round is caused by a swing flaw you cant figure out or something going on in your head. Since your not complaining of a slice or shank .. I would venture a guess you have an unclear mind when playing.

Remember golf is played on the 5 inch course between your ears.

    Heres the solution:

If your having a bad day in general, before you tee off figure out something (other than golf) that makes you happy. This could be kids,  hubby/wife, a crush, a balloon, santa claus, ect .... now before each shot .. recite a few things that make you happy then take your shot.

It sounds like a lot of work, but trust me it works!!

Before every shot in a tourney I usually say my girlfriends entire name, its my mental pre shot routine.

    Good Luck to You

  4. Well, there IS a reason why golf is a four letter word.  I would just say golf it, and go on to your next round.  I suck at golf, but I love it,and when I shoot poorly, I just say, "Well, can only do better next round."

  5. same was happening with me this year but i made a great improvement when i got myself a pro and a good ping G10 set . even i used to get frustrated and so does every new golfer.golf is a sport which every1 can not perfect in a months ,it might take years.when you are talking about stress no then .stress doesn't have to do anything with your physical strength, its all mentally you feel.haha! i played even in stress but i still did well.

    good luck!!!

  6. After a bad round I usually find that going on to hole 19 eases the pain.  Seriously - forget it, it's in the books and you can't change it.  Sounds like you might be trying to hard.  Go out, enjoy the outdoors, the scenery and most importantly relax.  Unless you're a playing pro your life isn't going to change after a bad round.   Have fun and your game will improve.

About a month ago I, along with three of my regular playing partners had probably the worst collective round we've ever played.  I'm about a 16 hcp and the others are comperable.  We play together often and always enjoy ourselves but this round was unbelievable.  After 3 holes I started referring to it as keystone cops golf.  By the time we'd played nine we were laughing so hard that we quit keeping score.  I'm sure that had we scored ourselves over the full 18 we'd have had a collective 450 strokes.  You can't do anything about a bad round(s) once they've been played so don't worry about it.  They named it golf because all the other good four letter words were taken.

  7. practice , practice

  8. that pretty good unless your talking about the modified stableford  system. but what i always say is don't get mad your not that good.even 25 on the MSS is not bad. so i'm thinking you're pretty good, just practice more.what did you shoot? #

  9. Don'y know how long you have been playing ... but here's a hint ... if Tiger still has a coach maybe you should too. Practise and enjoy the outdoors. Good luck!

  10. Take a break.  Sometimes we just play too much and get in some bad habits we don't even know we are doing.  Take a few days off - no playing, no practicing.  Then when you go back return to basics.  I have what I call the ABTs of golf which stands for Alignment, Balance, and Tempo.  When things are going bad it is usually one of those three things that are off.

  11. "What do you do after a week of bad rounds? "

Rounds?  ROUNDS?  Are you serious?  I would nearly kill to play a round a week and you are complaining about a week of bad rounds?  Sorry, no sympathy on that one here...

    But, since you asked...

Do you keep track of GIR, fairways hit, Puts, Ups and Downs?  Have you gone over each scorecard in detail?  Did your driving, long, mid or short irons let you down?  Were your scores dragged down by the flat stick?

The firs thing to do is figure out where your weakness(es) are and THEN look how to fix them.

  12. I was wondering the same thing last week so I went and played 18 on Friday with just my 7 iron, 56 wedge and putter and played from two to eight balls each hole (course was not crowded).  By the end of the round I was very happy with my swing on all three clubs.  Even hit the flagstick on the 17th (par 3).  By just swinging two irons all round I was able to iron out my swing.  Then I played 18 on a par three course on Saturday then 18 on Sunday on my regular course with a full bag and shot my lowest score this year.

  13. I left the game alone for about a month and when I grabbed a club i felt much more comfortable with my swing and my overall game. watch lot of golf on your off time and study swings.

  14. The best thing to do is chalk it up as a growing pain. I've shot some really bad rounds and thought about giving up. But think about your investment in the game. Too much to give up right? Sometimes your concentration is not too good, and that leads to bad rounds. Keep it simple next time out, eye on ball, good pace to your swing and choose the right club.

  15. still winter , altough it should not be . leave driver at home . air is very very thick . driver will nose dive . . cocentrate on contact not results . use pitching wege all short shots , sand iron to much bounce for damp ground . take 2 more clubs than usual . the air density will reduce your distace by that much . greens poor condition very bumpy ball of line from this , also every chip or putt will be short . do not loose your confidence , the course and late spring are against good scoring never say never better days ahead

  16. put your hat on backwords, put all your change in your left pocket, tie your left shoe in a double knot, untuck your shirt if its tucked and make sure alot of people are watching you.

    it worked on tin cup!

  17. I agree with the replay that said “figure your weakness(es)”. It’s hard to fix “it” if you don’t know what “it” is. Replay the round in you head, make notes and determine what your weakness. For example: missing drives right, few up and downs, low GIR.  Practice “it”, and understand what you are practicing is going to help your score. Really focus on that one aspect of you game, devote 90% of your practice time to “it”.

Relax, pressure may be a problem. Play up and down with a friend for $1. Try to replicate pressure situations.

  18. maybe it's exactly this frustration that makes you play not well? try to calm down and relax. =))
