I am getting my bachelors in Child Development and I am wondering if there is any other career avenues other than teaching preschool...and also if anyone knows if preschool teachers in California are any closer to receiving the same pay as elementary school teachers because of increased degree requirements...thanks!! :)

  1. The answer to your second question ,sadly, is no. There were a number of studies on Head Start that were not favorable in regards to pre-school being a precursor to academic growth. Research something called FACES study.  This meta study found that while immediate measurable scores in areas like cognition were higher (than other disadvantaged children) the long term benefits were hardly noticeable.  This is very significant because early childhood education and its validity has/will come into the fire.  Obviously this study has its controversy......look this up!!!  This is but one small reason that this occurs.  In my opinion it is tangible/intangible argument that I could write forever on......I digress. I worked in CA for a while as a preschool teacher then discovered the boys and girls club.  I would suggest that this is an option along with girls inc.  With your degree you could have opportunity to advance in these organizations with a income up to $150,000 in admin. roles.  Go to both of these national sites and click on the employment opportunities to see the jobs and $.  My hat is off  to you and any of the preschool teachers and aides out there.  It is a tough job with very very little pay.  To soapbox "IT DOES MATTER IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CHILD........"   When our society views early childhood education as important as measurable academics (like many other industrialized countries) then the pay will reflect its obvious importance.

  2. Don't remain a bachelor..get married

  3. In the UK:

    -Social Care Worker

    -Health and Well-Being

-Support Advisor in a speciliased field of early years

    -Child Development Worker

    -Children's Centre coordinator

    -First Steps Worker

I could go on and on :)
