What can you do with an anthropology degree?

More than you may think. Yes most assume that if you have a degree is some supposedly "useless" degrees such as anthropology there will be few options. You will do some field work, fight for a grant and end up teaching in the end. Of course this would require advanced degrees.

If you like the subject and it fires your brain go for it. Time to think outside of the box. Anthropology is the study of man and social interaction..... which is the basis of all.

Think about it. The CIA, CDC, NSA. the military, the government and such always have need for people who understand cultures. The World Bank, WHO, and all sorts of nongovernmental organizations have a need for this. Companies that have interests in third world countries do as well.

You can gain insight into man's origins and his time, thereby allowing you to see what influences and circumstances helped to shape our views of life coupled with our instincts, desires, fears and dreams.

I know a physician who got a bachelor's degree in anthropology.  (I also know a man who got a Ph.D. in philosophy and wound  up getting a master's degree in library science.  Today he is the librarian of the  philosophy library at the university where he got his Ph.D.)

An anthropology degree can also lead to a job in teaching or in the helping professions, but you will probably need additional preparation to start a career in them.

Unfortunately, people with degrees in fields like anthropology and philosophy are only directly prepared to teach their own disciplines--usually on a university level after getting a Ph.D. in these fields.  This can limit your job prospects because these academic fields, from what I understand, are overcrowded.

Use it as a stepping stone to something better.  Any degree proves that you can solve problems and looks good on the old C.V.
