What can you do with an old skylight?

I have three old skylights and think they're cool enough not to throw away. But what to do with them? I was thinking about making little greenhouses in my garden. Is this good or does anyone have a better idea?

  1. They would make good lids for cold-frames. You could build boxes a bit smaller than each skylight, but with a sloping top, so when the top is closed the rain water runs off. Hinge the skylight at the back so you can open it for when it's hot.

Cold-frames are great for starting vegetables and flowers early for later planting out in the garden.

  2. If throwing em away you can also recycle glass.

Cool Idea with the green house... will take time and a plan!

Could try selling em on Craigs List else.

  3. Roof for a doghouse?

  4. Sounds okay for early season starting of seeds and plants, but if they have wood frames, they may rot.

    You put them on e-bay.

Or install them in the garage/shed.

  5. My dad used old factory windows to start his huge garden in the spring. He would be putting stuff out there while there was still snow on the ground, he diverted his wood burning stove to help heat it. Worked well for many years.

I use two sheets of sliding glass doors for the same purpose. Hardened glass.

  6. making a greenhouse was the first idea that popped into my head! Another idea would be to built a potting or garden shed for your self, and use these for natural lighting.
