I'm planing to major in Biochemistry and minor in Nutrition Science.

Is that a good combo, or should I minor in something different than nutrition?

I'm not planing to go to medical, dental nor pharmacy school. Probably do graduate work . What are some jobs that I could do with that major???

thanks

  1. It's a good combination.  The nutrition science will give you credentials to work in some more applied fields.  There are lots of agricultural organizations who will hire scientists to work with their products.  For example, I know a woman who got her BS in chemistry and her MS in food science.  A major blueberry producer hired her and she works on isolating chemicals in different strains of blueberries, quantifying them, and documenting any effects on human health.

That combo will make you more marketable to the private sector as well as for public/government work.

  2. You can do research.  There are vast fields of research that are untouched.  Specifically, with biochem and nutritional science, you can do recombinant DNA work on many fruits, vegetables, you can do pesticide control, and there's always vitamins, essential minerals, and work on obesity to name a few.
