It really depends on which country you are in, but in general, expect a lot of elegant people drinking and power brokering in lots of tightly knitted groups, with other people flitting around them trying to get into the circles and seem important.  A general rule of thumb is that those that explain to you how important and powerful they are are in fact the least of both.
