  1. EVERYTHING!

  2. Lots of things! Barbecue tofu, for example. You put sliced tofu in a frying pan, add onions, and mix it with barbecue sauce. Then you can eat it plain or add it to a sandwich. Or, if it's silken tofu, you can make yummy, healthy milkshakes. Add one block of silken tofu, some milk, fruit, and orange juice together, and blend it in a blender until smooth. It tastes delicious! Tofu is actually soy bean curd (it sounds gross, but it's delicious,) and it's a great source of protein. I've been veggie for about six years now, and I didn't start eating tofu until about one or two years in. There are also some good meat alternatives, like veggie jerky and things. Hope I helped!

  3. Tofu is a food of Chinese origin, made by coagulating soy milk, and then pressing the resulting curds into blocks. There are many different varieties of tofu, including fresh tofu and tofu that has been processed in some way. Tofu has very little flavor or smell on its own, so it can be used either in savory or sweet dishes, and is often seasoned or marinated to suit the dish.

    Tofu Burger

    Ingredients:

    1 lb extra firm tofu

1/4 c each whole wheat flour, corn flour, & rolled oats

1/2 c parsley tops or fresh basil leaves, washed & dried

1 tsp each paprika, coriander, cumin

1/2 tsp dried basil or thyme

    1/4 tsp ginger

    pinch cayenne

1/2 tsp salt and/or 1 Tbsp liquid aminos or soy sauce

    Instructions:

Heat a non-stick frying pan on medium with olive oil, or your favorite cooking oil. I add a pinch of asefetida (hing) to the oil for extra flavor. Garlic works too if you like it.

Cut tofu into 1 inch chunks, and add to food processor. If you don't have one, mash by hand or with a potato masher, and finely chop the parsley or basil first.

Throw in everything else and mix well by hand, or on low in the food processor just until it all clumps up.

Form into thin patties, and fry in small amount of oil, on medium heat, 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

    Voila!!!

    Enjoy!!!

  4. You can make miso shiru.  It's a japanese soup where you can cube up tofu to put in it.  Tastes good to me.  You can add chunks of fish too.

  5. Udon soup.

You can also put the friend ones in curry!

  6. Pumpkin Pie

    Makes 6 to 8 servings

1 1/4 pounds soft tofu (try “silken” tofu for a creamier texture)

    1 16-ounce can pumpkin purée

    3/4 cup maple syrup

    3/4 cup sugar

    1/3 cup unbleached all-purpose flour

    1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

    1 teaspoon ground ginger

    1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

    1 9-inch unbaked pie shell

    Preheat the oven to 400°F.

Blend all of the ingredients (except for the pie shell) in a blender or a food processor until smooth. Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie shell and bake for 30 minutes. Then turn down the oven temperature to 350°F and bake for another 30 to 45 minutes, or until the filling is set.

    Pasta Salad with Tofu

Press down a block of tofu to get the water out. Then cut it up into 5 pieces and marinate it in Italian Salad Dressing for 24 hours. Then grill it on the barbecue. Serve it with colorful curly pasta that has italian salad dressing on it and cut up bell peppers.

  7. There's lots of recipes you can try. My favorite source for recipes is vegweb.com. There's even a recipe for fudgsicles!.. and they taste great!

There's only a couple things you should keep in mind when cooking with tofu:

    1. Check the type of tofu the recipe calls for (silken, firm, etc.)

    2. Remove excess water from tofu before cooking

    3. For a "meaty" texture freeze your tofu first and then thaw it

    4. Tofu is very bland, so it is very important to use condiments and spices (soy sauce is always good)

    5. Don't get discouraged the first time if it doesn't come out right, try it again. From personal experience I can tell you I screwed it up a LOT before I finally got the hang of it.

A very easy recipe that I use when I'm in a hurry or just don't feel like cooking is to use firm tofu, drain it, cut it in slabs, marinade it in soy sauce for a few minutes and  frying it in a bit of oil until it turns slightly brown. Its very good on sandwiches and wraps.

    Hope this helps!

  8. One of the BEST tofu dishes I've had is panko crusted tofu in a lemon sauce.  I would try it out first at a Japanese restaurant before attempting to make it.  Its a really difficult task, so make sure you like it first.

If they don't have it in the lemon sauce, try any fried tofu item (at an authentic Japanese restaurant as they fry in cleaner oil!).  I'm sure you'll like it.

It's a good way to be introduced to tofu, which can seem really weird at first if you try it plain.

  9. Ice cream, vegan cake, dessert, "meat" ball, substitue as egg in egg fried rice, filling for wonton or spring roll, smoothies, vegan mayo etc

I have many tofu recipes, some of them with picture, so you can roughly know how i cook tofu : )
