What can you put on a sand dollar to protect it?

I heard there was a recipe that you could make and paint on a sand dollar and it would harden and protect it? Anyone know? Thanks!!

  1. I think you first have to sterilize it so that it doesn't smell.  I don't know how to do that but perhaps a mild bleach solution would work then I would use an acryllic clear medium.  I have several of them I've never done anything to and they are fine.


  2. im an avid collector of these little guys, and if you soak it in milk over night the calcium and other nutrients in the milk will absorb right into the sand dollar. pretty cool stuff.

  3. Equal amounts of White glue and water. Brush on and let dry.  I bleach mine first to make them white ;)))))))
