  1. No one lives in Cincinnati, they live in great little communities and suburbs around the city.  Its a small group of neighborhoods each with its distinctive flavor like all cities.  Of course there are the Reds, and the Bengals our proffesional sports teams.  There are great schools around the area.  First their is the the University of Cincinnati a great school for engineering.  I like it because of the way it is set up, everything within walking distance.  The stadium is right in the middle of campus.  Their is Xavier which is a great school which is the cross town rival of UC.  There is Cincinnati State with a world class culinary arts school.  There is the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music a great school for talented musicians.  Across the River is Northern Kentucky University, then on down the road is the University of Kentucky.  Toward the north of Cincinnati is Miami of Ohio.  The local highschools are world class are always putting our competative students.  Entertainment is Music Hall, where I love to go see the Nutcracker every year, there is Procter and Gambles theater which always has a great play going on.  There is tons of clubs around town.  Every weekend during the spring, summer and fall there is always a local village, township or city with a week-end festival of some sort.  Then there is the Zinzinnati Oktoberfest, River fest and more.  Then there is the levee, my favorite part of the city (except for the great Zoo - great gigantic zoo), the Hoffbrau House is my favorite, there is the Aquarium also.  The levee is a great stop.

My favorite place of all in and around the city is the great bicycling.  I belong to the Cincinnati Cycle Club and we ride all over the city and around the city.  We ride Northern Kentucky also.  The best cycling around.  Then there is the Loveland Bicycle Trail which goes all the way from Cincy to Xenia and then some.  Eventualy the trail will go from Cincinnai to Cleveland.

The people of Cincinnati are level headed, even keeled people with a great work ethic and down to earth practicality.  It is culturaly deverse from Appalacian bluegrass, to Chicago style blues and everything in between.

The resteraunts, well we have our own style of Chili, known as Cincinnati style.  Its has a medateranian flavor to it and is served on spaghetti or on coney dogs.  Two competitors called Sky Line and Gold Star serve it.  There is Goeta of course a great tasting specialy sausage and my favorite is the BBQ places.  There is the Montgomery Inn (Charlies Dickens stayed there when he visited the United States) with its world class ribs and then my favorite, Burbanks with its Blues Men and Southern cooking.  They have fried green tomatoes, black eye peas, pulled pork, BBQ mutton, ribbs, brisket and always a great chance to hear the blues.

There are also comedy clubs in Northern Kentucky.  Many, Many places to go here.  You can watch the horses run at River Downs in Ohio and over in Kentucky.  Keenland is my favorite but its some ways down in Kentucky just as you enter Lexington.  I am a UK grad and never miss a chance to get there.  UK Basketball is my favorite.  Anyhow love the 'natti and so will you.

Not much negative goes on, here that doesn't go on in most towns.  You will here about the bad places in town, but I ride my bike through those areas and no one bothers me.  You just have to get out and not be afraid of people.

I am not originaly for Cincinnati, I am from Kentucky but have traveled all over the world in the military and I will tell you this is one of my favorite places.  I live in an area called West Chester just north of the city.  We have an IKEA there so you can get all the furniture you need.

Good luck on your selection of towns.

  2. Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky are descent places to raise a family since the price of houses are not that expensive and there are many things in the area that are family friendly such as amusement parks and museums.  Cincinnati also has professional football, baseball and hockey teams.

The area can get pretty humid in the summers and really cold in the winter so sometimes people say that Cincinnati only has 2 seasons.  But so far August has been really comfortable.  We are only supposed to be around 80 degrees today and this weekend with virtually no humidity.

The schools are pretty good in West Chester, Mason, Wyoming and the Blue Ash (Sycamore School District).  However there are a lot of good private schools as well.

Traffic can sometimes be a problem but it is like that in many big cities.  Unfortunately we do not have a light rail system but we do have the Metro Bus which runs from downtown Cincinnati all the way up to West Chester and Mason which are located about 20-25 miles north of downtown.  The TANK will get you around Northern Kentucky.

There are a lot of big companies that are located or headquartered in Cincinnati.  Procter & Gamble, makers of Tide, Bounty, Pampers is headquartered here.  GE Aircraft Engines is located in Cincinnati.  Kroger, the largest grocery chain is headquartered in Cincinnati as well.

Hopefully you will consider Cincinnati as a place to live in.  We were voted Most Liveable City one year.

  3. Ill go with a couple of negatives first I guess.  There is a bad side of town, like every other city.  These areas can be pretty bad here though.  Fortunately, they are small.

Other bad- depending on what your career path is, you may be somewhat limited in Cincinnati.  There are only so many big companies looking for high level IT people for example.  If you work in healthcare or something like that though, there is plenty of opportunity.

On the positive side- cost of living is great, the people are friendly, its a great place to raise kids with great schools, its got a lot of things to do with the pro sports teams, major amusement parks, etc, and its got some really nice parts of town.  Being located where it is, its a good mix of East Coast/Midwest/Southern cultures.  Traffic can sometimes be less than great, but compared to other cities, its not all that bad.

Overall, I would say that most people with families that are looking for someplace to relocate would be extremely pleased when they would come visit Cincinnati!

  5. Cinci is the most interesting city in Ohio   -- for what that's worth.

It's sole contribution to American cuisine is chili poured on spaghetti.

It's population would be larger if people weren't so repelled by the sight of chili & spaghetti in the same dish.

  6. Lots of racial tension and hate crimes.
