  1. Excessive idealism causes people to believe in Utopian fantasy worlds where everything is perfect.  Real life isn't that way and never will be.  If you try to build a world based on the way it should be, your efforts will fail miserably.  But if you try to build a world based on the way the world really is, you'll be much more successful.  Not perfect, but more successful...

  2. Putting too much time into something that can never happen.

    ...communism is an example.

  3. That it is excessive!!  Idealism is a bit like being half pregnant.  Not real.

    Peace.

  4. It's less depressing than excessive materialism, but more destructive than excessive dynamite.

You can say a lot of things about it.

  5. "Extremism in the defence of liberty is no vice."

    Barry Goldwater

If Goldwater had won, we would not have gotten Nixon. The Iron Curtain might have fallen faster. And terrorism might have been wiped off the face of the Islamic map.

But we will never know. Goldwater never got his chance to defend liberty. It was left up to his protoge, Ronald Reagan, who demonstrated--in heroic detail-- what Goldwater had espoused. Unfortunately, not even Reagan saw the coming threat to liberty from Islam. All eyes were glued to Communism.
