  1. "The technophiles are taking us all on an utterly reckless ride into the unkown...

Due to improved techniques, the elite will have greater control over the masses; and because human work will no longer be necessary the masses will be superfluous, a useless burden on the system. If the elite is ruthless, they may simply decide to exterminate the mass of humanity." - Theodore Kacyzynski

  2. How does science generate new knowledge?

The scientist often starts with an observation.  Two stars are really close to each other.  Then comes up  with a question - are they gravitationally bound to each other?  Then chooses a strategy to answer the question - perhaps they make measurements night after night, and when they don't move, month after month.  Maybe they use spectroscopy to look for movement.  When they find something interesting, they publish.  Sometimes when they don't find something they expect - they still publish - this is called a negative result.  It can help put boundaries on a problem.

Sometimes the theory comes first, and is verified (or proved wrong) later.  Einstein used Maxwell's equations to create Relativity, for example.

  3. What?  What exactly are you asking?  The development of what?
