  1. Don't be fooled into thinking that a dollar goes a long way in Paraguay when you're living the lifestyle you're accustomed to.

It may well be a country where you can get away with spending little as a resident - if you're happy to live frugally, like a large part of the population. That means, while you may well have a nice car (Korean 4x4s are all the rage) and a house with a gorgeous facade and a lush garden, there will be relatively little to economize on when you travel in Paraguay.

When you're making your way through it, staying in hotels, eating in restaurants, and driving rental cars, your money will disappear at a similar rate as it would in places like the US, Canada, or Australia.

Supermarket food is not that cheap either.

On the upside, if you can manage to live on steak, cigarettes and scotch, you'll be able to do it more cheaply in Paraguay than anywhere else, as these things really are cheap there.

To make the most of Paraguay, I'd take a few months, rent a villa in Asuncion, get plenty of coins for bus money, and enjoy the lifestyle the way Paraguayans live - which basically means, live slowly, take your time, be mellow to people, and generally exert yourself as little as possible.

  2. In Paraguay you can find both beautiful women and beautiful beaches....in a way.  Being a landlocked country, Paraguay has some great beaches along its many rivers.  These are called "Balnearios" and during the summer (Dec-Feb) every community has parties at their Balnearios.  These happen mostly in rural communities, but can be pretty fun with lots of dancing and drinking.

The women in Paraguay are gorgeous.  In the cities you can find more beautiful women on average.  If you don't speak spanish it might be hard, except for a few expat bars in Asuncion.

It is a cheap country to go to...and very off the radar for most travelers.  If you go...i would try to find a Peace Corps Volunteer or International Development worker to show you around.  I had lots of visitors to Paraguay while I was there..and everyone really enjoyed it....but even more so because I had been living there for a while.
