What can you spearfish (FRESHWATER) in California?

My dad always would tell me about his spearfishing stories....and he always planned to take me....but our boat was stolen.....and a couple years later we moved away from the ocean, and are now near lakes.....I was wondering what could I legaly spearfish in California lakes?

Most California lakes do not allow scuba diving, but those that do will let you use a hawaiian type spear on any fish that can be legally caught.  Lake Tahoe and Lake Mead are the only ones I know of offhand that has scuba diving, but a call to the local ranger office of the area you're interested in can tell you if it's legal or not.
