  1. Krav Maga is the official self defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces, and has been taught to hundreds of law enforcement agencies and thousands of civilians in the United States.

Krav Maga is a simple, effective self defense system that emphasizes instinctive movements, practical techniques, and realistic training scenarios.

While no limits are placed on techniques to be used in life-threatening situations, the legal need to inflict the appropriate minimal damage in other circumstances is recognized and stressed.

The guiding principles for those performing Krav Maga techniques are:

    Do not get hurt

Neutralise your attacker as fast as possible

Go from defending to attacking as quickly as possible

    Use the body's natural reflexes

    Strike at any vulnerable point

Use any tool or object available to you

According to a description written for the self-publication media site Associated Content, the basic premises of Krav Maga are:

You're not going to care how much damage you're going to cause.

Cause as much damage as possible and run.

Do not try to prolong a fight. Do what needs to be done and escape.

Again, this must be read in the context of a life-threatening situation. Instructors will constantly stress the need, in less extreme circumstances, to match the response to the danger or risk.

Based upon what I have read, it appears to be a practical good self defense system but requires a lot of practice to learn how to react properly to different situations.  There are training centers located in various locations throughout the US.

  2. i heard it is very practical because it involves everyday situations and surroundings. such as close combat in small areas such as a market. also teaches how to defend against weapons such as knives or guns. so yeah i think it is a good self-defense and definitely want to learn it.

  3. Krav maga is an especially effective self defnese system that is very fast to learn for the most part compared with many other tarditional arts. Please be aware that much of the training that is offered in the US is a very watered down variety. Make sure you thoughrally check out any school or instructor that you decide to go too.

  4. First off you should know that krav maga is NOT a sport. It's ment to hurt and in most cases neutralize a threat.

The guiding principles for those performing Krav Maga techniques are:

Do not get hurt (no c**p huh?)

Neutralise your attacker as fast as possible

Go from defending to attacking as quickly as possible

    Use the body's natural reflexes

    Strike at any vulnerable point

Use any tool or object available to you

According to a description written for the self-publication media site Associated Content, the basic premises of Krav Maga are:

Again, this must be read in the context of a life-threatening situation. Instructors will constantly stress the need, in less extreme circumstances, to match the response to the danger or risk.

The basic idea is to deal first with the immediate threat (being choked, for example), prevent the attacker from re-attacking, and then neutralize the attacker, proceeding through all steps in a methodical manner, despite the rush of adrenaline that occurs in such an attack. The emphasis is put on taking the initiative from the attacker as soon as possible. Indeed, some circumstances may require pre-emptive action, which may or may not be violent. Options here could range from "get your retaliation in first" to situational awareness (also part of the training) that might avoid a dangerous situation developing.

  5. its very strong once you learn it well it teaches you to use makeshift weapons

  6. i have been on Krav Maga seminars and to be honest it holds nothing new, effective yes in skilled hands. i feel that the martial arts have become a fashion statement, people are scoring cheap points by saying they have trained in a lot of martial arts, when in reality they know very little about anything.i feel that a min time of 5 years in any style/system qualifys an opinion of worth. i am sick of hearing about 6 week wonders or 10 year old blackbelts. in my day it was 10 years of blood sweat and tears before you had earned your spurs????????.
