Question:

What can you tell me about Monteverde, Costa Rica?

I will be doing an internship in Monteverde between July and December and was wondering if anyone has ever been and what they can tell me what to expect.

What type of clothes should I bring? I will be there for winter and summer but not sure how cold/how warm it gets.

I know it isn't for some time, but still want to get worries/fears out of the way.

Special things to take/study/have?

Thanks.

  1. For tourist related things, monteverdeinfo.com is great.  I spend about 6 weeks a year there with student groups.

Who will you be doing your internship with?  If I know that, I may be able to give you more details.

In July and August it will rain every day but mornings are usually dry.  It can pretty much rain all of the time and often most of the day in September and October.  In November and December the weather is nice with a little rain. December can be really windy (30+mph).

You will be there during the low season so there won't be mobs of tourists there.  It will be a quiet, small town so you might bring a lot of reading material.  .

  2. Since you will be in Monteverde during both the wet and dry season, I would suggest bringing lots of layers.  When I visited, I was so surprised by how chilly it was directly following a rain storm (they occur almost daily in the wet season).  I suggest taking rain gear and if you will be doing any outdoor work, take lots of SOCKS!!! Taking a sweatshirt/jacket would be wise...and definitely a swim suit and sandals.

As for studying, consider buying some books about Ticos and some Spanish guides.  For weekend trips the Lonely planet guide to Costa Rica is invaluable!!

As for Monteverde, the town is VERY artsy. The artists usually stay in their shops and are very happy to give you tours of their work.  The center of town if very touristy, but if you get homesick, a night on the town might be just what the doctor ordered.  Well, I hope that this helps and that you enjoy your internship!!! Good Luck!

  3. It s the best place in the world

  4. I went in April.  It rains a lot, probably in dry season as well. It is warm in the day and usually cool at night.  i would bring a lot of wet weather clothes and some sweatshirts, sweaters, windbreakers for the evenings

  5. You can find anything you need here:

  6. there is an oustanding cloud forest there!

  7. I would recommend taking a side-trip to the Arenal Volcano, which will be not too far from you. I went there and loved it. It's an active volcano and very beautiful to see...
