  1. It was something that was popular in the 70's, not so much now. Different Lodges had different reasons for giving them out, more than anything though it was kind of a souvenir. The Lodges I am familiar with they were symbolic representation of a days wages, and given to 2nd Degree coaches for each candidate they successfully coached. But again, every Lodge has its own traditions.


  2. It's just a souvenir, you can buy the dies to make your own. Some guys like to have a masonic penny with the year they were made a Mason, then they carry it in their pocket, forget about it, and spend it.
