  1. Az R gave the right info on the basic molecular structure of Coral Calcium, but it has a lot of nutritional benefits. Coral Calcium in supplement form typically has Calcium and Magnesium, along with other trace minerals from the Coral... some also add Vitamin D for a little added kick.

Some people really like it because of the extra trace minerals from the natural Coral, some people like it because it's from a natural source, and some people really don't care for it because they look at it as just a fad. It's personal preference, really.

  2. Long time reefkeeper here.

Uh. Basically it's CaCO3. There's nothing particularly special about it, it's created using Ca++ ions dissolved in sea water, and is usually one of the limiting factors in coral growth.

As far as biological activity in humans, it's pretty much like regular calcium carbonate, a mild antacid, used as filler in pills. It's got one other obscure use that has to do with near total kidney failure, and I honestly can't remember at 2 AM.

  3. It is calcium carbonate, or limestone. The very same stuff that Tums is made from, identical. The only difference is the coral calcium is way overpriced. Calcium citrate is far better absorbed, try citrical/D or you can get the same stuff at Sams club or Costco. Much better to prevent osteoporosis.
