I am an undergrad student in Florida and I'm considering going to school at the University of Puerto Rico because it is sort of like studying abroad, but my degree would be American, so it would be easy for me to work in the US. Anyway, what can you tell me about San Juan? Also, any information about the UPR would be very helpful. BTW, the program I'm looking at is the Speech-Language Pathology program.

  1. First, UPR is the best university in PR and it is a public university. It is affordable and if you want it has housing so you can get in. Speaking about the city, San Juan is a charm city with a lot of stuff to do. BUT be careful because there are areas called "barriadas" and "caserio" where criminals and poor people live so be aware of such areas. Try to avoid them.....Good Luck in your transfer or acceptance.

  2. Great city. Old san juan reminds me of New Orleans.... UPR has several great campuses across the island. There is a nice campus in Carolina, close to San Juan..... Be sure to get out and explore the island when you have time, great hidden places. Lived last summer in manaubo, cant wait to go back soon!

  3. if u like the relaxed soothing but party hard at the same time nightlife, and u have enough money to pay for a nice apartment or condo then san juan its the place u want to live. if u like the country side, the quiet and relaxed nights, then san juan its not for u. about UPR, well its the most prestige public university in PR, and very validated in the USA, but the negative side of UPR, its the political part. every time theirs a problem with government funds or such political issues in the island, the university tends to get involved in huelgas. so it may affect ur due line completion for some classes.

  4. San Juanis a Big city if You're  attending the UPR ..I guess You mean Rio Piedras...(that's where the recint is)..Rio Piedras  is  Hectic  and does not look like Old San Juan...where are You planning to live?

Living there it will be Ok ..make friends with Local students  so they can show you where Not to go at nite.
