What can you tell me about recycling batteries?

I didn't know where to take them here, but I've been saving them for some time.  I know they are not good to put in the regular trash.

car batteries can be taken to a recycling centre for cash

Ni Cad (rechargeable) can be dropped of at some Major stores in drop of boxes

hearing aid batteries can be dropped of at drug stores in drop of boxes

where available regular batteries can be put into the curb side pick up or some Major retailers will have drop of boxes

Drop them off at the customer service counter at any Whole Foods--they will take them and recycle them properly.
