Hey everyone,

My friends and I are going to Biarritz in just over 3 weeks.I'm bisexual and wonder what the g*y/Bi/Straight scene is like there.

What are the prices like for food, drink etc etc?

What are the people like?

Would it be worth our while to travel to Spain to get alcohol or should we try it in France because I hear the legal age is 18 (Even though the net says 16).

Thanks people!

:-D

  1. The legal age for alcohol is virtually inapplicable in France, particularly in the South West. In France it is 16 but you'll have trouble getting into some nightclubs in the city center.

Biarritz rocks but it's a very macho city based around a rugby team. I've been out there on many occasions and I'm not sure how nice a welcome you'd be given if you started trying to hit on guys out there. Rural France isn't the same as Paris and homosexuality isn't as well tolerated in the South West as it is in the North.

It would be worth travelling to Spain because the road to Saint Sebastien is awesome... travelling to Spain "to get alcohol" kind of suggests that you couldn't care less where you're going. This is one of the most beautiful regions Europe has to offer and all you seem bent (literally) on is getting pissed.

Biarritz isn't cheap - you can expect to pay Paris prices for everything and accomodation is expensive. It's a great city and the weather is likely to be pretty good in three weeks but it's not going to be hot. It's the off season though so as far as partying is concerned you're likely to come across a few resident surfers but most of the big parties only happen in the summer. Copa will be open at the weekend but it's shite. The best bar in town is Philippe Bernat-Salle's Red where they do an excellent fry up at weekends.
