I recently saw a report about the getrofa plant which is a poisonous weed like plant than can grow in harsh environments. This plant can produce an incredible amount of oil like substance that can be used as bio-fuel. Does anyone have any links and or stats as the the potential for this environmentally friendly plant?

  1. try some links from our country, philippine agriculture or the manila buletin website then go to agriculture section then search for jetropa plant. Some of our farmers are planting this plant basically for bio diesel. I think a high school student just discovered the oil from that plant and received and award from Science and technology department of our government and been featured from philippine news. Try also this link dost.gov.ph. I hope this would help you.

  2. I've also heard that what isn't used in the process to create bio-fuel, can be compacted into log-like dry forms, and burned for energy in the plants that create the fuel...

This is currently much more efficient than corn ethanol.

I would also be interested to learn more.

  3. The most information I could find on this plant concerning its fuel potential was from a TV news story. According to this report getrofa seeds contain 40% oil context and run 80% cleaner when used as a bio-fuel source when compared to fossil fuels.

As a bonus this plant which grows rapidly like a weed and is normally posionous to eat but does not compete for crop space as it grows in arid areas inhospitable to most crops.
