i hear that a 3 sided run in is okay, and i also heard that if you have a barn with a raised sleeping area would be okay as well.

would a horse barn (2 stalls) be okay for goats? the stalls are 12ft by 12 foot and do have plastic sheets that go over the front stall windows in the winter as well as back windows that open during the summer to open up air flow. . . there is also a 4 foot over hang in front of the stalls.

would adding the raised beds someone mentioned be okay? and i was thinking of a smaller breed of goat so how many would be a good number in the two stalls and not be too many goats? note: i dont have horses at the moment so the goats wouldnt be with a horse.

or should i just build a new out building for the goats?

  1. Angora or Pygmy goat's are great smaller bread goat they are about the size of a mastiff dog.  I raise Angora and they love the horse barn there in.  The need to graze and need at least 2 grazing areas of their waste will burn the ground and will not grow.

Two stalls will hold 10 goat's comfortably for sleeping or getting out of the weather.  If your going to breed them they need some alone time with their little ones for about a week so they can get used them. This will require a building with no draft.

Sorry if you get goat's the plastic will be gone. I suggest a board with a couple of holes to hook on the barn.

  2. Horse stalls would be fine for goats. I'm assuming the stalls are 12x12 each? That would be enough for a couple goats as long as they also have a fenced pasture. If possible, turn the 2 stalls into 1 big one. With enough room outside, this would work for 5-10 goats. The raised beds are good but optional. Goats like things to climb on, like cable spools and old tractor tires. Mine loved to sleep in an old bathtub filled with hay. Pygmy goats are small and fun. They must be kept in at least pairs. Males smell horrible, so either get females or have the males neutered.

  3. Stalls are good for them and really as long as you goat-proof it, anything will work that has good shelter, stays warm in winter and cool in summer.

Aww, are you getting a noregian(cant spell right) dwarf goat?! They are so sweet.

I'd just stick with the buiding you have

Good luck :] Goats are so much fun!
