  1. There are 2 forms of plastics: thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics.

    Thermoplastics soften and deform if they are heated.  This allows things like plastic injection molding to work.

    Thermoset plastics do not deform if they are heated, so they are used in situations where you want this to be a characteristic of the items you produce.  A good example would be hot-water plastic piping; you wouldn't want your hot water pipes to sag and stretch, so they are made from thermosetting plastic.
