Our neighbors hoard outdoor cats, which wouldn't be a problem if they took care of them, other than feeding them, they do nothing else for them. Because the cats are getting all over our cars and causing lots of property damage, we went out and bought a trap so that we can catch them and take them to the humane society (who we have already talked to) the problem that we have run into is that since the cats are being fed, they aren't be lured into the trap by food, is there anything else that I can use to get them to go into the traps?

  1. Well, I am a cat lover and I know of several ways to attract stray cats, but since these cats are being fed and I assume watered, then why would I want to give you this information when the cats you capture and take to the humane society will be put to sleep if they aren't adopted?  Leave the cats alone, and find another way to deal with your problem, like covering your vehicles with a light weight tarp at night, this will keep the cats away from the vehicles, and it will also keep the paint on the vehicles the original color and won't fade from being exposed to the elements.

You could always go and speak to the neighbors with the cats and see if some amicable solution could be worked out between you.

But, please don't harm the cats, they are gentle creatures and they mean no harm, besides, if you believe in God, which I am sure you do, and you harm any animals, then when you pass on to the next plane, you will be judged for your actions.

  2. a catnip plant

  3. I'm with Sweetreb, absolutely. You don't want to be accused of stealing someone's cats. Let Animal Control take care of it. Have you talked to the neighbors? They might decide to keep the cats indoors in order to save them. While in a sense right is on your side, I would be terribly upset if someone just trapped and took away cats I regarded as mine without even letting me know the bad they had been doing. (The two cats we have now, by the way, are entirely indoor cats, but in the past we lived where they could go in and out freely.)

  4. The humane society or better yet, animal control should come and remove the cats.  If this is a hoarding situation, then they can legally come and take them.  I would call your local animal control, the shelters run by the government.

You might get a laser pointer or a mouse dangling on a string to attract them, but really I think the best thing to do is call law enforcement so that the people don't sue you for taking their property.

  5. Shame on anyone that makes you out to be the  bad guy for this.  You should not have to tell anyone thay you don't want their animal in your yard, on your car, in your garden, spraying on your car tires, or keeping you up at night listening to their pet fighting.  Dogs are not allowed to roam freely through a neighborhood.  Actually no animalis so why do some people think a cat should be able to?  Lets face it, therse are irresponsible pet owners that got a cat and then decided  a cat box stinks, the cat sprays on the furniture, meows contstantly, climb on kitchen cabinets.... so they put the food and water outside and let everyone else deal with "their pet cat" .

If a cat comes in my yard I pick him up and use a permanent marker on his back or put a collar with a note "keep me in or else..."   If he comes back I "here kitty kitty him" and take him to the shelter myself if I get a hold of him.  If he runs,  I set my trap up in my back yard with a  black garbage bag covering the cage.  At the opening I put little tiny pieces of nice stinky salmon in front of the trap and inside  the door and a big bowl in the back of trap.  Even a full kitty can hardly resist a bite.

Until our society makes people take care of their cat (as they are forced to do with  any other pet they decide they want to own)  everyone is going to have to accept the fact many cats are going to have to be euthanized.  Place your anger on the right person... the irresponsible pet owner that cannot keep his pet under his own control and not the person that does not that person's cat. I do feel sorry for the ferral cats that don't have an owner.   It is more difficult for me to take them to the shelter because it is not their fault.  It goes back to being the fault of the owner that let their cat out alone and it ran away, was taken, got lost, and then pregant....  If animals are well cared they don't get lost or left behind.  If your pet is lost you pray that someone takes it to the shelter where you will find it.  You call the shelter and check 15 times every day to see if it was turned in.  If you are mad it made it to the shelter you do not care about that cat.  They only get euthanized if noone claims them.  If you don't miss your cat within three days and it is euthanized it was not a true pet.   A pet is an animal you care for and love and never let it be in a situation that can cause it harm.  Calling a cat that lives outdoor a pet is a joke.

  6. I know someone who does that.  The cats that go to his house love pasta (weird, right?) and they come running at the sound of a pan being scraped.  Umm if you have a friend with a female cat in heat the males will come so fast.  I've heard of them coming from the shaking of a box too because it sounds like treats.

  7. Cats love catnip and I'm suprised they would'nt be atracted to sandwich meat or cheese. They might also like cat treats or food

  8. I'M GLAD THAT THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO!!!!!!!!!YOU ARE BEING MEAN AND CRUEL! CATS DON'T HARM ANYTHING AND I PERSONALLY DO NOT BELEIVE THEY HAVE DONE ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR VEHICLES. I HAVE HAD CATS IN MY YARD FOR THIRTY YEARS AND MY CAR HAS NEVER!!!! BEEN DAMAGED. I CAN'T BELEIVE YOU LET SOMETHING SO PETTY BOTHER YOU. I COULD UNDERSTAND A DOG YAPPING ALL NIGHT BUT CATS     GIVE ME A BREAK............UUUUGH ON YOU
