What can you use to patch up a leak on asbestos roof. It is only one spot so does not need reroofing?

It is a garage roof and has the smallest leak, It was resealed last year.

lay a piece of roofing felt over the damaged area and apply 3 coats of aquaseal compound to the area. Do not cut the existing roof covering as flowing asbestos fibres could be dangerous.

Smear some clear silicon sealant over the hole.

get a piece of "torch on" roofing felt,lay it over the leak and use a blowtorch to melt it onto the asbestos.the bitumen backing melts and sticks like pooh to a blanket

Get a small can of patch repair compund used for sealing tears etc in Tar Paper type roofing as found on sheds and garages. It is pretty cheap and is waterproof within an hour. I have used this successfully for a couple of similar repairs.  of course you will have a black patch but dont suppose that will matter too much to most people.

I work with asbestos everyday... the regulations say that you as a homeowner can do whatever you want with it as long as you don't contract someone else to do it...  i would say put some tar over it

You could possibly use a fibreglass repair kit which is meant for car body repairs. You can get sheets of glass fibre and use the resin to waterproof it. Take care working with asbestos though. Use gloves, goggles and a particle mask for extra safety.

if you live in the uk ..buy a tin of FLEXYCRYL   its just the best stuff ever ..comes in grey or black ..will even seal a wet roof

hi, asbestos is a killer, but roof sheets contain less than 8% asbestos SOMETIMES , with a mask on and disposable coveralls dampen area around hole scrap of any moss or loose material and leave to dry, then cover with "flashband"can be brought from most builders merchant if you have a BQ locally get it from there its make up is a bitumen backed lead sheet, if how ever it is a small hole the  as stated before clear silicon will do, remember that asbestos sheets are brittle do not climb on roofs with out a crawl board , i have fallen through more than one asbestos roof also do not under estimate the dangers of asbestos fibres they kill be careful

Paint round the leak with paint-on bitumen,push some heavy fabric onto the bitumen then give it a couple more coats.Worked a treat for me.
